Mr Hobby SM08 Super silver metallic paint

Hi All,
I watched some videos were the guy was using SM07 Mr Hobby silver paint (difficult to find).
I found SM08 which seems to be quite new in their range and replacing SM07 (but not sure).

I would like to have the point of view of people who already used the SM range and especially SM07/SM08 from Mr Hobby to compare both.
Does the other colors really useful and different from Acrylic based paint?

From what I found online it seems to be the best metallic paint, but it is not acrylic based.

Any comments, advice, .... are more than welcome!

I've seen that same claim made about maybe five or six paints so probably worth taking it with a pinch of salt.

What are you looking for this for, any particular uses or just as a general metallic? Airbrush or brush application? Either way, I'm sure there's something easier to find that'll fit the bill.

Not sure about the SM08, but you can get the SM07 at HobbyWave, for now. I think it's 17 bucks.

Edit- also, Einion, I'd like to hear what other paints you have heard are good metallic paints. I've never used the SM07 but have seen some super results with it so have some on order.

In no particular order I've heard Humbrol Metalcote, Testors Metalizer (SP?), Mr. Metals, Vallejo Air Colour, the Vallejo alcohol-soluble metallics, printers' inks, GW and Alclad 2 described as "the best metallics" or "the most realistic finish" over the years; come to think of it you could add graphite (paint or powder) to that list too. And that's not even a comprehensive list, it's just what I can bring to mind at the mo (added one or two I hadn't remembered initially).

Partly it depends on what you're doing and how you intent to apply the paint - some of these are for airbrushing only - as well as the effect you're aiming for obviously, with coated aircraft aluminium being very different from polished steel armour for example.

In terms of something that genuinely looks like polished metal, which is a sort of holly grail for metallic paints, Alclad 2 is one of the kings here but it's relatively expensive and only for those with an airbrush. And if you don't apply it properly (over a smooth, glossy base) it's basically wasted - you could go with something much cheaper and easier to find and get identical results. Except for something like polished aluminium or chrome honestly I've seen as-good results achieved with Metalcote when used skilfully and as an enamel it's more user-friendly.

Thanks man. I haven't been too happy with GW's or Vallejo's metals. They seem to be too "glittery" and was looking for a different option. I'm not an airbrusher (nor do I think I'm going to airbrush metallics, so this seems like it may be a nice option to play around with.

I have tried SM08 out, it is a really nice paint. I have compared it to GW, and it is shinier. Maybe not the best but a really good paint to base your metallic part with and highlight. It has an excellent coverage. But the surface must be polished with fine grain sand paper to give the best results.
Definitely not a must have, but for somebody wanting to make a True Metallic mini it can make sense!
