Hey everyone,

I am just curious to know how many of you paint more than one mini at a time? I normally paint one mini and wait until it is completely finished before I start on another however lately I have a desire to start a whole new mini and come back to the previous mini. Does anyone else do this and for what reason?

I find it more efficient to work on several minis at once. I find a few that will use similar paint colors; while one dries, I'm working on another.

I definitely prefer having several figs on the go at the same time, even if they're not having the same paint scheme. I love not being fixated on a single colour scheme. It also takes the edge off to switch to another fig when I mess up a blend on a fig - calms me down since the new fig is well, a new opportunity to mess up :).

I can honestly say that I have around 50 miniatures with some sort of paint on them that are not finished.

I'm not proud of it, just saying it.

If I'm working on commissions, it usually involves doing units of 6 or more minis that will have the same colours, so I do them assembly-line style.
My own stuff, I usually have 3 or 4 on the go, and work on the one that catches my interest first when I sit down.

If I am painting a display miniature.. only 1. Gaming miniatures.. I will paint the whole unit at once, even if it's 20+ figs.

I don't generally paint more than one thing at once but I nearly always do when sculpting.

It can be a very good idea to have more than one paintjob on the go at one time to up your production level. Also if you every get burnout on anything subtle or complex it can help to take a break, while not quitting painting entirely, by maybe doing the boots on another model or something else easy that can be done nearly on autopilot.

I don't like to do it but you can paint and sculpt at the same time too, for one to be a break from the other.

I can smoke and prime with spray at the same time!

Characters are one at a time, units depend but usually in batches of 5, if it's alot of the same thing I'll start as many as possible with airbrush for speed then work the details in batches again.

i only paint one at the time, mostly. otherwise i think i would never finish anything.
but if i get totally bored with a mini then i put it aside.

Several at once. I keep a a card case tray with mini's at different stages of completion.

Ain't sure how healthy that is. On the one hand there's a rationale that having multiple projects on the go I can pick and progress whatever I'm in the mood for at the time, I wouldn't feel obliged to do final details when i'm more in that vague basecoating mood. On the other hand, I'm so rarely in the mood for final details the opportunity to get bored of a mini is so high it's all too likely the bulk of projects will stay at 90% completion.

I'm currently working on:
commission of 25 Black Orcs
Rackham Wolfen Prowler
commssion of 30 Karksins

not to mention trying to fit in sculpting work when I can, like sculpting the bases for my Grey Knights.

Multiple minis at once help me from getting bored. Ive been doing my ogres 4 at a time, since they're large, and Knoblars in batches of 15-20. mix those in with a single fig or two and im happy.

Got 13 mini's with paint on them and 7 with undercaot on and also 3-4 conversions on the go too. I like to give myself a change and having so many to chose from keeps me sane :)
