Quick note to Finn and other interested in Kate Bush music. In case you missed it (less likely in the UK then over here I guess) she released a new CD a few weeks ago. It\'s called Aerial and having heard them a few times now I think it\'s been worth the 12 year wait. Doubt it will do great in the chart though, it\'s a tad less accessible to the general public I think.

While we\'re at it, group question: any new bands or music you\'ve \"discovered\" the last years? With me it\'s mainly been Dutch groups like Within temptation, Krezip, Treble, Racoon and others. In the last years the interest in local bands has definitely increased giving them more exposure and many of these groups are really good.

I quite like the new Kate Bush cd. Not as good as her early works but great none the less.

p.s:mad:Minimaker: when are you going to visit Chimera again? :)

Still pushes my buttons:D

Thanks for the thought Minimaker! I have bought a download of the single and will buy the album when I can find it at a sensible price.

Well, there is a trip up North planned but I\'m not sure if I\'ll manage to drop by in Amsterdam. Haven\'t been there for a while.

Finn: you\'re welcome. I couldn\'t wait when I found out she had a new cd, so I already got it. :) Shame she isn\'t doing well in the chart here. The single that is.

I\'d never really noticed until Finn put up Kate Bush\'s pic, the similarity between her and Mary Steenburgen:

Who is Kate Bush? And what type of music is it? ???
Kate Bush is an UK singer of popular music who did her first album in 1978 (the kick inside).

Type of music: that\'s a tough one. Alternative pop? In any case not a mainstream commercial style of music. It\'s like with Enya and Enigma who\'s music has such an unique sound you can\'t easily place them in a particular group. Of these two I\'d say Enya comes closest in some song. The smoothing calm ones. One the other hand she also has passionate wilder songs. Tori Amos and Happy Rhodes have been compared to her, but I don\'t know them well enough to say if that\'s so. Her music is her own and she has specific ideas about it which makes she doesn\'t follow necessarily popular or commercial routes. This makes that her music is not always that accessible and in some cases takes time to grow on you.
One website puts her in \"ethereal, experimental, evocative/eclectic pop, sometimes beautiful and fierce\" and I think it has all of that. Strongest points in the music are the use of vocals (she has a very particular voice) and music to create an atmosphere that fits the lyrics. The lyrics often are a story/situation/feeling.
She experiments a fair bit which makes that every CD has it\'s own specific sound.

Hmm, I think that\'s the best I can do. Anybody else want to try to describe her music?

If you want to try I\'d recommend listening to \"the whole story\" which is a compilation. After that \"Hounds of love\".

Some well known songs:
Babooshka
Weathering heights
Running up that Hill
The Man With The Child In His Eyes
