that\'s obviously a running total, and they do help with the fund raising
The Trek itself is from the 2-11 October 09
My first hurdle is the £250 registration, and being as there are only 10 places (as of yesterday) I don\'t have a great deal of time

oh yeah, I tried a 3rd time to create a fund raising badge with Paypal, all looked good, I clicked the \"done\" button, it said it was adding the badge to my profile........well I can\'t see it anywhere
Okay, so not a lot of time! Here\'s some suggestions I would utilize.
First hurdle in raising money is that no matter the good of the cause the trip sounds like fun. Trekking though the wilds? Why should anyone pay you to do that. So I would make sure you emphasize the charity aspect first and the actual trip way down the list in any solicitations you do. I get a lot of requests at work and typically the ones that say I need to go to ______ to raise awareness for ________ and I need ______ get tossed.
So..... Make sure in any solicitations you not only make it clear what your financial goals are, but what YOU are doing to raise that money, and be specific in what the target can do to help.
\"Dear GW, I am holding a charity painting challenge day to raise funds for charity, I expect 16 people to each pay 10 pounds each for the event and If you could donate three beginner paint sets that would help\" kind of thingy. I usually pay more attention to those kind of specific letters and requests.
So, moving forward, I STRONGLY urge you to hold an online auction. Say, isn\'t there some auction site you\'ve been trying to get people to pay attention to and use..... I think there is! Maybe holding this event at their site will help spread the word and they might lower/drop the fees.
You can ask people here (I\'ll help) for ideas, donations, and bids as well. Make sure you\'ve got some unique items. Of the top of my head.
-I don\'t know where you live but maybe a \"Chaueffered, door to door trip to games day\" for people in your area might be a good idea. Stuff like that
-Painted figs and models are great, but go past that. Maybe put up for bid \"The ultimate brushing music\" and sell a collection of your favorite painting music on like 3 cd\'s or something. You can send people music legally with iTunes I think.
-Convert a fig! You\'re good at modeling and stuff so maybe put up for auction \"One converted 28mm model to the winners spec\'s\" kind of a thing. I hear Mike Dodds was gracious enough to donate a model to the NSPCC charity that was painted under terms like this, and it went for 65 pounds. Not bad!
-GadgetS! You\'ve contructed some unique devices. Put \'em up!
-Tournaments! I raised a lot of money for the heart and stroke fund over the years by holding charity tournies. I made a T-shirt for the winner and got some small prizes donated for some of the rest. My particular poison is warhammer, but any game with a venue can generate some good times and money for the cause.
There\'s loads more ideas, and you\'re a creative dude, so get out there!
