music to tame your painting beast

well id have to say I like a wide variety of music depending on what mood im in..alot of Beastie Boys and Lil John and Green day here to get me in the mood lately but alot of 80s also..I suspect some of ours pals here could make quite extensive lists of music we have probably never heard of. I used to like speed metal alot but they tended to look very dark or something that crawled from the mosh pit((evil looking))

Its all about the context, if i\'m just sitting around painting for fun or display the best stuff is always movie soundtracks, and some rock/metal, maybe some chart stuff for easy listening, if it\'s for ebay on a tight scheduall it has to be dance music, hey nothing makes you paint faster than dance music .

BrokenBlade yep i agree the sound tracks are excellent..Conan((1st movie)) the sound track especially..Im told alot of them out there I dont have are excellent.I may have to go surfing tonight on a torrent for a few..

at home i like metal video games a hyped up techno (UT music )

on WW2 re enactments (and trips there and back) old big band music :bouncy:

Mick I\'m beginning to think your writeing a book with all your questions LOL.. Naa in all seriousness I either listen to talk raidio or pop in DVD\'s and more listen to them than watch..I bet Ive gone through the Band of Brothers series a 100 times..

I prefer slower music when I paint, for example Radiohead, Leonard Cohen, Tori Amos, Element of Crime...

When the paintjob is completed I switch to the heavier music... Fugazi, Cosmic Casino, Smashing Punmpkins... :flame:

I like to listen to down-tempo dark electronic music. Something suitably twisted and gloomy, but not too harsh or up-beat. I can\'t concentrate on painting if the music is too energetic and attention-demanding.

I\'m with DFD on this one; usually talk radio - Radio 5 in the UK for me, or a DVD (I treated myself to a portable TV + DVD built in). Straangely, BOB has been played countless times!!! And often the commentaries on DVDs too.

It\'s more like having company.....

Well, I may be weird, but I like to paint in complete silence.
I get easily distracted with music or voices.

I also tend to paint in silence, but its wierd for me because I am a very musical person. Barbershop Quartet Singing every Monday, a clssical/baroque chamber group on Tuesday, and church choir on Thursday. Public Radio is my prefered radio channel except of course when it\'s baseball season and the Yankees are playing.

Seeing that I am starting to get desperate for ideas on how to improve my painting, I suppose I should bring the CD player to my paint area.

I used to listen to NPR constantly while painting, but lately it has been failing to hold my attention and I get easily distracted when I ought to be painting. I\'ve recently invested in several audio books and have found that they help immensely. Since my two favorite things are painting and reading, it\'s almost like being in heaven.. So far I\'ve gone through the Da Vinci Code & Angels and Demons, and I\'m almost finished with Son of a Witch.

I listen to the radio when my husband is home - it\'s a local \"we play everything\" station - which includes things like \"Do the Hustle\" and \"Disco Duck\" to give you an idea of how odd it is (Right now they\'re playing an old Michael Jackson song - If OBP weren\'t shaking their cup for donations this week, I\'d be listening to that).

Radio 5, especially on a Saturday afternoon.

I\'ve also started listening to Radio 2 in the morning. It\'s like going back to the womb.

If I put music on, I rarely notice when its finished. I once had Jonny Cash on repeat for 5 hours!!!! Barely noticed. Back in the day it was Ministry- Land of Rape & Honey or Skinny Puppy- Too dark Park etc etc.......

Oh how things have changed!!!!!

I was just about to type this exact thing as an answer to this question. When I really get into the painting \"zone\", so to speak, I don\'t really want anything with lyrics, or too much energy, something with a just enough interest to keep my subconsious happy, but not distract. I even don\'t like to change CD\'s or reload MP3\'s on the computer so it\'s often webstreams...(although then when the signal gets disrupted I get pissed! )
