Hi.

Note: I will be playing various different point armies

This is my first (revised first) army list. They are ultramarines (as you can view in my gallery, more pictures will be going on there when it lets me).

Please could you help and advise me as I have both the rulebook and codex (pictures can be provided for proof, latest versions) and have a very vague understandiing of them, as I am finding it difficult to learn hoe to play. I have had a chat with the bloke in my local hobby store (not a games workshop store, it\'s independent) and he doesnt seem to want to help me very much.

I have posted on other forums and am trying to learn stuff from there too, and thought I\'d broaden my horizens and try here too.

(drop pods or rhinos for some of my troops)?

There are tons of good sources to find good lists. You have a couple of my favs. The razorback is a smart move. Whirlwinds are usually a must have too, they make a lot of folks panic- even experienced ones.

Put up some pics when you get them.:D

I have one more bike to fit in there too forgot to put that in.

I have found quite a few sources and I also have the 4th ed. rulebook and codex. I find it very difficult to understand them though, which is why I ask advice on the forums.

I have put up loads of pics of my whole army in the gallery sort of thing, but they havent appeared yet for some reason. It said somthing about them having to be checked in some way or another first

Cheers

ok my suggestions:
1) if you give your commander a lightning claw, for whatever reason, give him at least a storm bolter so he can charge after fireing and has much more firepower
2) equip your vet sergeant in your command squad
3)get rid of the razorback, the new rules make traosport much worse and not worth their points, esp. the razorback (imho)
4) do not use special chars since they are forbidden in tourneys etc. a regular psyker has nearly the same value and you can equip him (tiguris e.g. lacks a save roll from what i remember)
5) venerable drads are dung if you compare value and points, they cant do anything that a regular dread couldnt plus a smoker für a dread is rather useless, since you may fire every round
6)the combinnation of alscannon and flamer in one tactical squat is not as good as i.e. lascannon and plasma or heavy bolter/flamer
7)i suggest not to equip your sergeants with too expensive wargear since many of them wont ever be in close combat
8)dont buy the vet sergeant option if youre not gonna equip him
9) from what i see your crusader is empty so get rid of your assault squats jumpacks and save points and put them inti the crusader
10) little hint: you may buy the machine spirit for your whirlwind so you can drive 12\" and shoot with the missile launcher whenever you want (but its pretty expensive)

oh and i would suggest to use a vindicater ratehr than the pa since the mortar weapons got tweaked (drive and shoot)

oh and use these new virtues!

just my 2 cents

Total points 2421: that means you are listing all the stuff you have or that are you planning to use this list?
I ask because in tournaments the used points are 1500 and in friendly matches rarely we go over 2000.
My suggestion is to do a list of 1500 points and to use the rest as sideboard against particular opponents/matches.
I\'m not very skilled in w40k but i saw somewhere a tactic with the dread putted on the enemy half with a drop pod to permit fast utilize on the first-second turn.
Also they suggest to give to scouts sniping rifles.
For what i discovered the best choiche for tactical squads is the laser cannon.

drop pot /teleporting troops is effective in maybe 5% of the cases
most of the time they will land deep into the troops of the enemy, shoot with their weapon once and then got scrapped with short range weapons like metas, plasmaguns or lascannons, autocannons etc etc
schocking is n e v e r effective, thats what i learned from 10 years of playing 40k space marines :)

Nero, where do you live? Some of the battle reports in White Dwarf may give you an idea, how to use your army. And as far as I know, tournament armies are 1850 points and this should allow you a good mix, although I might advise you to rely on your troops rather than to use too many vehicles or tooled up characters. Marines are still one of the best units in the game. Good luck.
