me again! i just finished this guy up for our wamp comp and would really like some feedback on the entire piece (including base) only colours used were black, fortress grey and red for the blood and eyes.
i really cant paint black/dark grey so thought he\'d be good practice
the photos are real hard to get and as everyone says he looks better in real life.

Ooo... that looks nice
So you\'ve got at least one approval!

If I\'d criticize anything, it\'d be that the base is nearly the same color as the figure. Maybe some muted browns to help break things up.

cheers! i actually wanted to keep it the same to keep the theme but also i wanted it so you had to really look at it to see whats there if that makes sense? painting those moss roots was a right bugger!!

Very Atmospheric, very well done. An interesting experiment in limiting your color palatte and it looks fantastico. Good luck in the competition!

I love it, with the muted pallet contrasted by the blood it gives it a really visceral feel. When I look at it it seems like hes just finished hunting dead of night with a full moon. So imo dont change a thing.

it\'s cool! differentiation through strength of highlighting rather than hue is a real skill, so well done. Try to transfer that to the base as well though - highlighting the foliage/rubble around the edge of the base will help to frame it and draw the eye inwards like a picture frame more.

Looks great but photos are not in focus... I actually like the simple pallete and think that it adds more menace to the mini.

nice one.

I think you\'ve done a great job with the limited pallet. I like the composition of the base - but as others have said the painting doesn\'t emphasize the model as much as it could - but saying that I wouldn\'t have liked to try painting some of those bits.

Good luck in your comp - a mini to be proud of I\'m sure.

Hi Brett

I think you have done a lovely job on this.
I think the colour of the base is far to close to that of the model, consequently it all merges into one.
Some more contrast in the model would also help liven it up. No lighter but darker in the recesses. This may just be the bad photo though.
The other thing that I think you could of improved is the blood. The drip from the wing looks very big and a little unconvincing. Think of the movement of the wing. Is it sweeping forward or back? The direction the wing is travelling would dictate the drip of the blood, its stringy semi congealed.
Still a solid 8.5 from me, well done mate.

cheers guys
@Nigel, you know how crap my photos are normally so an almost black mini on a black background was never going to turn out well!
i might remove th blood drip. it was a bit of an experiment that bit
i\'m keeping hold of this guy so at least some of you can see it in real life some time

you\'ve done a great job with a limited pallete, i don\'t see why all mini\'s have to have alot of colour anyway sometimes its good to use a limited pallete, and this mini looks great.

photos looks slightly out of focus i think.

but nonetheless, looks exceptionally well done. especially with such a limited pallete of black and greys.
one thing that could give it a bit more edge would be using some gloss on the gore to give it a more liquid feel.

Looking nice! It looks like there are more colours showing up that has to be the lighting only then. :) Great atmosphere!

First off great job with such a limited color selection,

the only comment I have is the wing in the 3rd photo down, the rear view could use more contrast (maybe it is the photo)

also the base seems to be kind of plain compared to the fig but I guess that was the look you wanted

good stuff, good luck in the comp.
