My Brits (COMPLETED)

Hi y\'all, all I do is look up to you guys:flip:

After a month working on many pieces, I finally completed something.
Let me bring this up to your attention, barely worth your scrutinous eye, but at least better then my previous submissions.
Here is the fifth of unit of my bretonnain grail knights, not mine anymore in fact, now that it\'s done^^

It\'s really great to hold a completed mini after such work, I almost cried when I glued the pieces together; the best thing is I have 4 more coming, one that should be done by tomorrow :D

I had a lot of troubles along the way. Let me just say that nobody can stress the importance of GOOD primer on metal enough, and that really cheap paint does weird stuff sometimes when diluted at more than 1/5...
The layering/feathering is my first go with the technique, or close to, so are the patterns. Straight patterns are harder than it seems!
The thing I like the most about it is the colors, I think design is my biggest asset in painting so far, the one that came naturally.
I\'m a bit unhappy with the yellow, came out a bit dirty ( yellow is a pain...).

Still I think I can see the light... somewhere this way;)

i like him, your best work yet! good color choice. the metallics are looking solid and your brush control is coming along nicely

now the crit: your gnoll had much better contrast - a key element! it doesnt need to be extreem, but you need more. depending on your priming methods, a simple black wash (for white), or white hilight before you apply top coat will give you greater deapth. it looks like you have done this (or something similar) in a few places, like the tabbard on the knight (see how that area \"pops\").

last bit of advice: lets talk hair - give it several washes with an off white (greys, browns: all kinds, even the yellowy ones are great for this) then go back over it with that same color mixed with white and hilight individual hairs (i know, i know) in places where you would normally hilight (raised points etc). then go back over with pure white, and hilight just the center of those previously hilighted areas on the hairs. for a smoother effect, do more layers. to determine where the hilights should go i suggest looking at peoples hair on a sunny day, and carefully observing where the hilights occur. anime is also a good resource because they tend to over-emphasize it. i often get caught staring at girls\' hair in class :D.

Nice heraldry . Is it a historical one or have you inented it? I hope you\'ll get past 6 with this one ;) But you could get soem better pics ;)

Yep,contrast came up often in my critics... I worked hard on them, just with tones that were way too close:( I did see them when I was benching over it, face two inches from the mini...)
And me who taught I could get away with just drybrushing the hair, silly me lol

@Shawn: And that\'s what brits are for, right ;)

@Krom: Seeing how rarely you post in the forums, I\'m deeply honored:D

@Hash: Oi, chap ( Sounds so good when you do it.) straight from my head the buggers came, a plenty where it\'s coming from! ( I got to practice my Irish^^)

On my side I can only hope it stays around 6, which is A LOT for me:D

Looks good. I actually like the way the yellow came out. The fabrics are very nice, the subtle shading makes them seem more realistic. Metals are nice. I think the base looks really nice too. I\'d have to say the tail and the hair around the hooves are probably the weakest parts, inking and washing like Funnymouth suggests will help that alot. Great job, I\'d say mid 6 so I\'ll give you a 7. Keep it up.

All this hard work payed off with heart warming recognition, you guys make me proud to be part of this mini-world^^
I\'m so happy to be doing that :flip:

I didn\'t give it a rest tonight and finished number 4. Only the shield is left, I can\'t wait to show it off!

I think contrast is a bit better on this one, but the mane is once again not so good ( Shouldnt have started on black.)
I am very happy with the design, warm automnal tones, nothing pompous and a solemn, worn feeling... just the way I like my brits! The checkered pattern fitted realy nicely in design, but it was very long and tedious, I\'ll keep away from that for a while..
I also feel the 3/4 pose is much more dynamic:D

When those two have reached fifty votes, I will finally be assigned a number, so it\'s a good time to vote!

Next is the musician, It\'s just started so I won\'t bother you again for a few days;)

now that is looking really good!
that cape is VERY nice. good complementing colors - the grey is smooth. im diggin\' it.
why is the base elevated in that ....stuff. id say smooth it out with some gs at the very least. the hair is looking better too. note that reflections on hair tend to go horizontally not vertically. do what you did on the very tip, in a crecent around the downslope of the tail hair. look at my zombie hunter to see what i mean.

Greetings (my first post). Nice work there, I think to take it to the next level you need:
  1. Use thinner paint.
  2. Try to paint more tidily or try lineing the borders of distinct colours.
  3. Use more layers of paint (goes with 1)

Other than that, I think it\'s very good considering that you\'ve been painting for what... 3 months.
Way to go pal :)

Nice work. Have you considered white undercoat? it would really punch up your reds and whites instead of trying to overlay these light colours over a black background. Other than that well done!

personally i`d stick with the black undercoat. one thing mate...the tail,hoof,mane and otherwise \"hairy bits\" could have more attention. When you feel more confident dont just dry brush them but highlight the strands or hair up individually. It will really improve the look.

I use white uncercoat exept for metals and it feels fine with me. I did not want them pompous so I volontarily used \'dirty\' colors.

Edit: Don\'t see votes though, I doubt it will survive the voting tide if you don\'t help him..

Edit: 6.6 to 5.9, my brit had a hard night :(
