Thanks airhead, the funny part is, I have yet to put any sealer on it. The red does look a little glossy on the wings.

...I like the colours,especially the tone of the blue!
I\'d like to see a lighter tone of red on just a few select areas,might help define it a little more.Reds and maroons are harder sometimes to define,I did an all maroon Imperial guard last night,5 shades (didn\'t want to go overboard as I\'m planning the freehand shoulder to be the focus!) and today it looks like only 2 :flame:lol Nice piece,cheers

It looks very dark, and I think there are the right amount of highlights for a dark red.
My problem when I want a dark color is that I tend to over-highlight, and it turns out not looking dark at all, and sometimes even pastel (cringe). I\'ve been getting over that with the last couple minis.
I like the green color in his helmet. I little OSL would make it really pop. I say that as if it were easy...ha lol .

@ Broke n English Thanks mate! I know how you feel I must have 15-20 layers of red on there. Started with a black/blood red 50/50 mix, all the way up to Dragon Red.
@ Celthulhu Thanks as well. I was a little worried that I may have over Highlighted it. I was trying for OSL, I don\'t think that its all that bad for my 1st real shot at it. If only I had Shawns article when I painted him.

I studied him and studied him, and studied him some more, and finally came to the conclusion that the paint job was very good (reds photograph poorly... just look at my Fire Demon.. he looks SOOO much better in person), and I\'m jealous that you got them to show so clearly...
But I can\'t stand this particular mini at all. I think I threw mine out, or something.

I like the reds and blues on him quite a bit - particularly the red, that had a nice \'pop\' look to it.
I think a bit more work on the metals, some shading and highlights (perhaps start with Boltgun and Black Washes and work your way up through Chainmail and Mithril and perhaps a bit of white added in there for a \'glare\' or something - actually I\'ve never added white to a metallic directly - I\'ll have to try that myself to see if it works).
As for the green OSL, I think the color isn\'t quite right for the miniature and the colors that you have here, clashes a bit too much. I red glow would have been more appropriate - but that\'s just my opinion.

The reds on the robe have come out very nice indeed!! The area that I would work on a bit is the metallics ... they seem to be put on a little thick ... you can see some grain. Have you tried thinning your metallics before you apply them?
I prime white and if I thin my metallics a bit, then you get a couple nice effects for free 1). They will go on more smoothly and 2). because the thinned paint will run from the high points just a bit, you\'ll get some of the white shining through and get an almost NMM like highlight on the highpoints of the metal.
Here\'s the first example I could find ... sorry the point of interest is a tad small in it:

All that I did was paint a thinned \"gold\" (which was actually 90/10 mithril silver and japanese uniform) and then washed it w/ a very thin wash of 50/50 dark prussian blue and black). Notice how on the really high points, there\'s still almost no paint and the white of the primer shines through to get some real twinkle on the metal?
A careful application of a few thin layers can get you this kind of effect w/ very little \"fine\" brushwork.

I was going for a ancient dirty, but not rusty look to it. I also think that I did not let the metals dry long enough. I was eager to see it done.
