my first airbrush

hi, yeaterday i recieved my first airbrush and compresser, i really don\'t know much about them, i first used it on my empire wizard and started to get used to it. today after school i decided to paint a simple picture, the night sky. here it is, it took me about half an hour and i am really pleased with it. advice is welcomed and i wanna know what you guys think of it.

Not bad. You notice why most airbrushers use cold pressed board instead of canvas?

There are a lot of People with Airbrushes out here (Me Included) who want to do \"Stuff\" with them and any explanation would be beneficial.

With cold pressed you don\'t have the canvas texture to deal with. Before I figured out cold pressed I used to gesso and then sand the heck out of a canvas to make a flat smooth thirsty surface to airbrush on.

I learned a ton from the Radu Vero airbush book and highly recommend it to anyone that has an airbrush

What he said. See how the canvas has picked up the overspray adding white highlights to the canvas texture? Solutions are to fill with Gesso and sand smooth (don\'t sand into the fiber or you\'ve made matters worse). Or spray on a smooth surface such as cold press art board.
Another option is to go to the home center and get some precut masonite (tempered hardboard). Prime and paint on that. Wonderful smooth surface. An added bonus is that most home centers will cut it for you free so you can get a bunch of 8x10\'s to work on.

whats funny is your all discussing how canvas has that texture , but i didn\'t use canvas, as i am new to airbrushing i also have little supplies.
this was my thought train when i decided to paint this:
\'urm...i\'m bored....i should try my airbrush...er...what to paint on.....something black......oooo a folder....that will do nicely \'

so its really a black folder i had about 6 inches from where i was sitting, shows the effort i went to to find something.

I got myself a Badger airbrush a while ago. I used it once to spray some cammo on to my 1/16 RC Tiger tank and made a bit of a mess of it and I haven\'t touched it since.

What are a good set of paints to use in it? I think that\'s what my problem was. I was just using GW scorched brown, probably not at the right dilution.

So yeah, what paints and what consistency???

I actually run craft paints through mine - about 50/50 mix water to paint.
