My first mini ever!

Hello again and thanks for all the nice words! You keep me painting. Just had a little painting accident when I wanted to start painting a terminator - he fell directly into the painting water after I had the first basecoat on him

@Mosch: I checked thrice, no message there I fear...maybe you can try and send it again?

The news from the mini front: I finished the Kasrkin! Bought some glue and put his painted backpack on, there\'ll be pictures tomorrow - I might send him to the voting thingy, too

On another, but connected topic: I like to paint my marines as Ultramarines, but I\'d like to try an own paint schema on my AoBR marines! Unfortunately, it\'s hard to find good ideas...I\'d be happy if you guys would give me some tips or ideas what could be nice to paint and what you would like to see maybe.

I thought about a green schema, maybe with orange/black details and a chapter name referring to tigers But I\'m not sure that\'s a great idea.

first of all, there\'s a ton of marines on here, just search for marine, or SM

secondly, the GW website has a number of examples of SM chapters.

third, there\'s a poster with some 100 different SM chapters on it. you should be able to preview it via the Black Library website.

]The Bolter and Chainsword (a marines based forum) has a good number of examples.

But most importantly, do what you want, paint your marines in any color ypu like, the AoBR-box contains enough models to try all you want.

Thanks Mourner, I went throught the GW page\'s marines and found some thing that I may try out

However, I got some pictures of the finished Kasrkin. The base is not finished of course but my \"client\" didn\'t really seem to want one anyway. I may do it later, when I found a nice way to make good bases.




As usual with these close-up pics, I\'m not too happy with some parts of the mini, but overall I like it. The carapace armour was a nice opportunity to practice edge highlighting
I may put one or two of the pics into the voting thingy later for fun. But for now, as usual, I\'m happy to hear C&C about the guy



Ah, and here\'s another thing...

Pretty, isn\'t it? My girlfriend had the idea to convert this thing into some kind of ork battlewagon...I\'m not sure if I\'m able to pull it off well, but maybe it would be a nice opportunity to get into converting a little bit...what do you guys think?

i think go ahead, just as long as you want to field it. by the way your stuff looks great. really awesome basic detail for you first models, my first SM just looked like a glob of paint

Cool digital painting tool

Having just purchased my first Warhammer 40K figures over the weekend, I was looking around for colour schemes and found this online \"colouring in sheet\" which makes trying out different paint schemes a breeze.

Thanks, Toggie Unfortunately, this way I paint reeal slow...will take months till I may field some painted Marines against my friends

@Kitsune: Ah, thats a nice tool! So many options! I\'ll just try some stuff out and maybe post the results here to get your opinions - if you want to give them

For now, here are some pics of a paint scheme I tried out...inspired by Ulthwé and Black Templars, obviously





I like the black/bone contrast and how the red eyes look on that black helmet...and the armour itself was a nice thing to practice edge hightlighting, although I think maybe the highlights should be even brighter? What do you think?

For a whole marine army, I\'m not sure if I want to do this scheme. Looks a bit too \"bad\" for loyalist marines, too much of Black Legion in it, maybe.


I\'m thinking about doing the marines in some traditional heraldic colours, as they are the knights of the future somehow...something along the lines or red/yellow or blue/white etc.

It\'s fething hard to find a scheme that is a) nice looking and b) not already in use by some famous chapter :cussing:

He looks really good, but he would look a lot better if you reall pushed the highlights and shadows, especially on the black armor. Also, I\'d suggest looking for any tiny details on the jetpack that you can pick out with a different color- it\'ll add more character and keep him from looking like black blob at a distance.

The gun looks good, but I would suggest using the edge of a brush to highlight all of the corners and straight lines that woudl be catching the light. It would give it a much more dynamic effect.

did you sculpt that tactical squad shoulder pad? haven\'t seen one like that around before.
The black armour is cool but remember most of the time you\'ll find when black armour is painted the essence of black is really a dark grey. something to think about i guess.

The eyes look great and you\'re right they do stand out. try doing some layering with your minis e.g the leg panel or shoulder pad could blend from black to a grey.

The highlights look great. pretty flawless though perhaps extreme highlighting? idk...


the only dull part i find is the bone, aside the kneecap the rest is bland flat bone colour requires some sort of wash to disperse the tones and darken in areas.

but thats just me.

Hey guys, I just played around with the marine painter from B&C and this is a scheme I am quite happy with at the moment.

Unfortunately, direct picture-in-thread doesn\'t seem to work, so I\'d be happy if you click here and tell me what you think about it.

After painting that black guy I\'m quite sure I don\'t really like \"dark\" marines for loyalist chapters (Black Templars may be an exception ). This looks hopefully a bit like old heraldic colours, more knightly and the many white parts should be able to distinguish this guys from Ultramarines.

So, what do you think?

You know, I\'m a little stuck right now because I\'d like to find a scheme for at least most of these guys, so I can practise one kind of scheme over several models, so I can somehow keep track on how I improve and what I need to do better.

that marine looks good, im currently thinking about a marine army in those same colors (with bone shoulderpads though, instead of just the trim) to go with my (newly minted) Guard army (so far I\'ve got a command squad)

some extreme highlighting would look nice, just remember that it\'s a black marine, don\'t go to light...

oh, and keep on painting and improving... and e nter something into a GD soon:cussing:

Hello everyone again!

I thought I\'d post something here again because I have some kind of painters block at the moment and really don\'t know how I should proceed on this one...







As you can see, this is clearly WIP...the blue parts are mordian blue with washes of asurmen blue and leviathan purple. I plan to highlight with ultramarine blue and mixes of space wolf grey - yeah, I\'m copying Joek\'s technique on his veterans, I hope that\'s okay for him

However, even after studying the veterans, I find it quite hard to really pinpoint where the highlights should be. Marine armour is so rounded and flat that I find it hard to see where it should be bright and where not (compared to Orks for example).

The pads and shoes are supposed to be white later, however, I\'m still struggling with how to exactly get a good, lightly shaded white. bleached bone is a bite too yellow as a basis, I think...maybe I should rather use the bluish space wolf grey as a basis and slowly highlight to pure white?

Eyes and botanic head stuff are WIP, too, they\'ll receive highlights soon.

Would be happy if you could help me a bit decide where and how to highlight in a way this looks good.

Postscriptum: the parts I\'m happy with are the golden skull and wings on the torso armour. I find that blue/purple washes over shining gold really give some nice colours!
