Nevermind the PM I sent you this morning. You\'ve got it figured out. This is a great first post. Needs a bit of tweak, and a bit of nudge, but not bad at all.
It is totally fair to adjust color balance/brightness/contrast to make the mini look right. Use a decent backdrop to help show it off. Most use a blue white fade, a few use black. Do a quick search on light tent (light box or light cube). Along with understanding lighting, that will help your photo work.
Mostly, it is like painting, the more you do, the better you tend to get.
