Hello all!
I have been lurking these forums for a while and enjoyed the banter a lot. ow I have finally gotten hold of a digicam and posted my first two completed minis. I have been painting for about a year give or take a few months.

Any comments would be nice :)

Here are the minis:

Congrats on your first posted minis and the delurking!

ok, well I do like the warlock, but his robes don\'t appeal to me. They looks kinda browny/black, and I can\'t tell if that\'s highlighting, or gloss. The wraithbone turned out well though, and the gems too.

I think the howling banshee looks very good, the colors work very well together. The hair looks great, so does the armor. However, once again I can\'t tell wether or not you painted the black.

Oh, and, I don\'t know what you\'re using for your bases, astro turf? I don\'t think it looks too hot, especialy in that color.

hope this helps. ;)

Thanks for your comments :)

I intend to paint the bases so that I get rid of that horrible green color. It was all I had home and my significant other wouldn\'t let me near the spicerack.

The robes on the warlock are black but I think they might look brownish due to me not being that good at either highlighting or taking mini-pictures. Highlighting black is hard... but practise makes perfect, I have a few more black robes to do :)

Both very nice.

I think they are both looking pretty good. The one with robes has some very nice gemwork.

I like the color selections on both.

Personally, I like black lining, it seems to help things pop out a little more, and it might benefit your miniatures around the hands and wherever two different materials meet. Again though, this is just a personal choice and you may not care for it.

The extra time it would have taken to finish the bases would probably increase your score (the voting here can be pretty harsh), but you must have been eager to get the pics up and posted. (i have done the same thing:D;))

Overall though, some very solid work, I am looking forward to more of your posts!

Thanks supervike. It is the first time I tried gems and I owe all of my success to Chrispys article. It was very helpful.

I might try blacklining on the next metal figure. I am trying to finish an army so I am working on my plastic guardians right now. I don\'t like doing plastic, but it has to be done.

and yeah I was eager to get them posted. I am actually getting the score I was expecting, in other words around 6. I think they are above average tabletop quality, but not much, hence sixes. It is the first two minis where I have been working with highlights and such so I am pretty satisfied :)

Congratulations !

I\'ve notices some good points in your minis. You\'ve avoided a few mistakes commonly done when you start painting.

First, your colours are neat, I man you can\'t see the primer in the depth of the mini (that\'s a mistake I used to do all the time, like you see little white dots and it ruins it all)

Second, the colour choices make them coherent, it\'s sober, and that\'s good.

One thing you could improve easily is your bases. A good green layer would be usefull, it brings the mini down.

Go on like this and I bet you\'ll be able to achieve some great minis !

*blushes* Thanks for the compliments.. I will keep trying to improve my painting. On the colors I think I have some help from having studied photography earlier. The color theory is important in that. (I know the actual photos aren\'t much to talk about but it was the first time I used that camera)

Thanks again, both of you :)
