My first painting log! This years GD entry and some other bits\'n\'bobs

Hi everyone,

This is my first ever painting log, I only started painting about 8 weeks ago so I am improving as I practice!

All comments and feedback are welcome and appreciated. Most of what I post will be works in progress so please bear that in mind

To start off with I have painted an Ultra Marine of the fourth company, my first ever one that I\'ve painted with my first ever banner! This isn\'t complete yet as you can see! I got the idea from the How To Paint Space Marines book, and when finished he will be on a snow base, that is why he is highlighted up to almost white, it is the reflection from the snow.

Also, about a week ago I decided I would go to Games Day this year (which is on my actual birthday!!) and enter Golden Demon! So picked to paint a wraith lord, as I love the eldar models, did some designs in a sketch pad and started painting. The concept is that the wraith lord is like a Grim Reaper with the yin and yang symbol on his head, one side an angel of life and the other side the angel of death (grim reaper) representing good and evil and the balance between them. Because the model itself is going to be quite natural the base is quite industrial to balance it out, it\'s supposed to look like the wraith lord is there, at the end of a battle, deciding the fate of the dead!

Hi there,

This is the base for my wraith lord, as promised! It\'s not finished yet. The tiles are done using a sponge and a lot of patience dark lining The chevrons are VMC flat yellow down to VMC orange brown, with battle damage and chips to make them look as if they were painted on the black floor and worn heavily! I am going to paint an imperial aquila on the brown/weathered side!

Hi,

As they are work in progress pictures I thought I\'d put them up as they are. After checking out other peoples project logs I saw that most people just take quick pictures until the model is at a significant stage

Plus, I couldn\'t be bothered to photoshop every WIP photo lolosaurus

Hey, I think the painting looks good overall, your freehand work looks great! But as mickc22 is implying the photos might let your work down.

I think the main reason to have better pictures is just to get better and more feedback. If you can afford or borrow a cheap digital cam with a good macro function it would go a long way. Taking pictures + photoshop ~5min I believe. No need to crop out the background for wips.

A quick way of taking decent pictures!

that writing is quite cool. just makes sure it works with the gw fluff, i know sod all about eldar so i don\'t know if it fits in

Aaaaaah! For some reason, I thought it was Arabic, so I didn\'t see the letters. But now I know what I\'m looking for, I can.

I did the writing in that style because it looks similar to the runes/symbols in the eldar book, and thought it was quite interesting that you know it\'s writing, but it takes a minute or more to work out what it says!

I see. I suppose that\'s why it threw me at first, since I\'ve never flicked through the Eldar book.

If you like the eldar model range then it is a good book to flick through

I should be able to get some more photos up tomorrow, just started a demonette so will try to get some photos of that up.

Awesome more boobs, any shots of the marine battle damage yet?
*edit, regarding the freehand vs. Eldar fluff, I reckon it\'s fine...pretty Eldaresque. And the concept is solid.

Thank you Im hoping to get some photos up tonight of the marine with battle damage, and in regards to the freehand...thanks I thought it would fit in, I read the whole book before I started so hopefully its fine!!
