Just getting back into painting mini's. Love the website so I thought I would share what I was doing. Learning heaps fast. Youtube is another helpful site for beginners, if you filter out the dross. I love the terminators included in the re-release of Space Hulk. I wish I could do the figures more justice, but practice will help. See what you think. (Photography is another thing I am trying to learn).

Looks really good for having been out of painting for awhile! Watch Obsidian Paintings video on painting sanginor wings to learn about doing good glazing. My criticism would be blending your armor lines where they go from red to orange. But all in all its a good job. I have this kit and have wanted to do a very similar color scheme so thanks for that!

Thanks. Had a quick look at the vids - will have to watch them carefully next time I have a spare moment. The last level of highlight went on to thick, I lost all the subtlety I was building. Kicked myself.:(

I think it looks really great for not having painted in such a long time! Much better than my first attempt back. I like the details you added: scroll work, gems, and damage on the helmet. You're photography is pretty darn good too. I have SO much catching up to do on taking a good photo

Okay, watched Obsidian Painting's vid on youtube. Spent a bit more time and care with blending on next chap, and was careful regarding getting 'too heavy' with lighter highlights. This is what I've come up with next.

So did you like his videos? I learned a lot form watching his stuff on glazing. The blending on this space hulk is much better!!

Pretty good, the blends in the first could be smoother and maybe push the highlights more in the second miniature.

Good job.

Great job. I am moving from just doing game quality painting to more advanced. I'll have to check those videos.
Yea, check out Obsidian Painting on youtube. It's by Gary Lucas and he does some really good videos on painting styles which really helped me. Plus they are in HD and well done. You should enjoy them. He is also really good about answering any questions if you email him
