Hello. This is my first major project.
My Idea: I am creating a throne of undeath lead by my slayer vampire lord. The idea came to me when creating a few war machine ideas. How would Zombies look if they were raised and put together with fine dwarven artisanship?
I am using an older slayer model, I think called Doom Seeker. Why Slayer? Well, when you voice about trying to use magic or black alchemy to extend your life, even for a dwarf, it is enough to have your name and honor removed from the records. Even forsaken by his kind, the slayer still holds dwarven tradition to heart and the very ideas literally breed into his blood.
The first major alteration is trimming the hair, not as tall as the standard slayer models. I plan to color it using deep purple/ blood red highlights. He will now also have some chest armor, I am thinking of using a necron body carved out, instead of the icon on the chest I am thinking of a blood droplet or some kind of green emerald. Add on some shoulder pads, skull heads, holding on a fur cape. The chains attached to his hands I plan to keep only the left one, replacing the axe with a solid bar. I want the bar to be smashing something, like how we would a fly, I am thinking of using a bat, or perhaps a large spider. Any ideas would be helpful.
The throne I am thinking of making out of greenstuff and plasticard. Buying the new model from GW does not seem practical to me since I would need to carve out all the runes or fill them up. Also the dragon heads would need to be removed. Too much loss to be of effect I think. The runes I would like a mix between Skulls / Bones and iconography. What I would like to know, what would work to base the runes on? I thought Celtic, but so much of the current GW line is based around that IMHO.
So, do you think this is viable for a first project or am I just wasting my time? I would like to enter it in the local store's competition, and perhaps a Golden Demon '12. I know I will not win, but I would like to make the first cut. I will post up a crude drawing of my idea when I can, the scanner does not like Windows 7. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
*Edited* So seems the doom seekers I have are not the ones I thought I had. These all have beards, chains, and icons everywhere. Almost no skin shown. I am not skilled enough to cut it all off and re-sculpt. So now I need a new dwarf unit.
