hey, today i got my GD ticket together with the special edition space marine. as i need to practice blending and other thecniques before i paint my youngbloods entry, i decided to give him a go. so far i have painted the face, and it has comed out nicely. but im not sure on how to paint the blue armour! i dont want it to be to light, but not very dark. the only blue i have is ultramarines blue.

i will post pics as it progresses!

all help welcome! :)

There\'s an article in the articles section on basic shading and highlighting, I believe... try looking it up, it has the example of the technique demonstrated on a blue space Marine helmet. That should help. I would still try and get at least one much darker Blue and one much brighter blue, you can mix them to achieve the intermediate coulours. That\'s because just adding black or white to ultra Blue will end up looking \"dirty\" and \"chalky\", respective.
Hope that helps.

When doing ultramarines i give them a 50/50 black/ regal blue basecoat. Then a 50/50 regal blue/ultramarines blue (leaving the deepest recesses with the base coat colour). Then go around all the edging with ultramarines blue. To finnish off the highlights i use 50/50 ultramarines blue/ space wolves grey. Text book stuff really. Based from the \"how to paint space marine\" book. I think you might need to buy more paints. Good luck. :)

My tip is borrowed from MiniGrrrl.com

Paint the armour in ultramarines blue, then wash the entire area with a mix of midnight blue and just a dash of black. Then repaint the armour in ultramarines blue leaving the wash in the recesses. Add white to the UB for the highlights blending up to about a 50/50 mix.
