Really want to improve my painting, so shred away please!

Thanks everybody, this is the first model completed of my army. Aside from this I only have a half painted grot squad/biker boss, and a dakkajet/squad of meganobz nearing completion that need weathering.


My first experience sculpting as well. Prior to this all I used GS for was the occasional lleather strip/gap filler. I bought some liquid green stuff to fill in the prints on the hat, and I figure a dark grey edge highlight wouldn't hurt too much?

What painting level are you aiming for?

I'd say it's a solid 5.

I didn't notice that the hat was GS'd, but didn't really think about it either. Can't tell if those are fingerprints or texture in the hat now. I'd chalked them up as texture at the first glance of it.

Painting wise, fairly standard. Clean lines, nothing jumps out as wrong to me. The flames could have benefited from some definition of their edges, as they look a little soft. Course, not like I'd do much better.

I'd like to get to the point where I could make some decent scratch doing commission work. Granted I don't think people will be asking for golden-daemon-quality stuff from me. I'm sure there are plenty of more skilled artists available. My hope is that those individuals price their work accordingly, and that I would still be able to find a niche in the market, at least for "table top quality" or slightly above

This was done to decent standard by me. Above table top quality, but probably halfway between tabletop and my hardest try. Was doing him for an online contest for fun, but didn't have time to properly "finish" him.

Flame edges are a bit soft yeah, was trying to make them wispy a little but, I'm bad. lol. Flames are easier on bigger surfaces I have to say... Not that the bigger surface makes my wispy attempt any better... I think I'll stick to crisp flame lines in future

I'm kind of a newbie too. Started painting this year and I noticed it's possible to keep improving bit by bit. The best thing to do if you want to get better is to try things out and pay a hell of a lot of attention to what other people are showing here. And if there's one thing I learned (but I'm not yet into it) is that the way your photo's are made add to the overall quality, more than you think!
