My first submission

After looking at all the other work here I was hesitant to submit anything. Some of you guys have some phenomenal painting abilities. I feel like I’m a little out of my league here, but I figure you gotta start somewhere. This is only about the third mini I’ve painted and I know I need a lot of practice but I would appreciate some constructive criticism. I haven’t learned the finer art of highlighting yet so there are none on this guy.

Welcome and it\'s a good start.
You\'re showing good brush control over the placing of colour and the highlighting on the trousers may be accidental but it\'s along the right lines to progress
Over all I\'d say that the mini doesn\'t lack much, The highlighting and shadows will come with practice, keep posting and we\'ll keep making suggestions.

Hi Ratcals, welcome to the forum :)

For the third mini you\'ve painted thats really good! It is very neat and the paint looks even and smooth. Things like highlighting and the rest of it come to you as you paint and experiment with new things - but the basics seem like they are there - which is what you want in your first minis.

Keep it up, theres loads of good tutorials all over the net and in the articles section of CMON that are there to help and inspire people.

Can\'t add anything other than \"welcome.\"

Nice first submission. DR & Vince covered most of the helpful, instructional type stuff already so I\'ll just add two things.

1- Welcome to the Forums. Enjoy the company, listen, help out where you can.

2- I mistakenlay misread your name as \"Rectals\" (recovering dyslexic)
:D Glad I was mistaken:rolleyes:

Welcome to the CMON family.

Welcome to the forum.
I know how you feel. Sometimes I also thing I am \"a bit\" out of place in here. But wouldn\'t it a bit boring if you only see \"perfect\" minis in the forum. lol
I think you made a great start for your third mini. Very clean and smooth paintjob. Also the details are very fine. So now you can go over to try out shadings and highlighting. There are many good tutorials out there... ;)

Hey ratcals, your third mini already has a higher score than my most recent mini after three years of painting (and I am sure I will never be able to get a higher score than six ;)). So there\'s no reason at all to be afraid of being out of your league - there are many worse painters here that try to leech off the talent of the likes of EricJ :D

Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement. I only recently found this site and I’m slowly making my way through some of the tutorials. I’m an incredibly slow painter but I’m working on a Daemon Prince I converted and I hope to have him done by the holiday.

I commented on the image itself so I\'ll save my typing here. Great for a first time though and welcome to the nuthouse here (pirates and rectals and such)
Some warnings to newcomers about the forums:
1. Every 2 or 3 weeks you will be exposed to a sniping/voting fairness/vote count thread.
2. Every 2 to 3 minutes you will be exposed to low humor, wiseass comments, and/or scatalogical remarks.
3. Your avatar will be murdered then resurrected.
4. If you can handle all this you will fit in.

The first thing I noticed was so many pure colours. Brilliant greens, blue and yellow. When you start highlighting, this problem will fix itself. Overall, a good and accurate (thinned paint is significantly harder to control) start. :)

Hey, hey, HEY!!! We talk shit, but we don\'t talk about shit!
5. your threads will be hijacked. Expect it and welcome it.

Freakinacage: You gotta disable smileys. I did it to myself for a while before I figured out all \"lol\'s\" would cause this. It\'s an inadvertantly cool effect.
