My first submission.

Greetings.

I\'ve found a lot of helpful information on this site and was hoping to get some feedback from the community. I painted a dozen or so miniatures a few years ago and just picked up the hobby again.

I decided to paint this figure to practice skin tones. I ended up doing a bunch of things for the first time. It\'s my first attempt at non-metallic metal, decorative basing, and miniatures photography.

I\'d appreciate any opinions or suggestions for things that I can improve on. Thanks.

The figure looks really well done.. The picture is a little dark overall and a few different angles would help.

Also the background is pretty close to the skintone of the figure which makes the figure fade with the background.

Good job though.

I think it\'s great and if the NMM is among your first efforts, great things will come.

I like the skin also... the shading is a little sudden in some places and could be a touch smoother but it\'s got a great look to it and all the colours are spot on.

As mentioned, the background colour isn\'t great for the photo, perhaps use a graduating blue or plain white... If you are using plain white, see about adjusting the white balance on your camera or tinker with the balance in some software.

The vote link is here by the way.

Nice one... Looking forward to seeing some more.

If that is a pic for submission, I\'d suggest making it bigger (another 100 pixels or so would help). This gives us a bigger pic of the mini and lets us really see the details.

The NMM looks spot on for the sword. I\'d personally like to see the brass & gold (sword & belt buckel) have a bit more highlight.

The base is great - what did you use for the tall grass?

Thanks for all the helpful and encouraging replies! I feel all warm and fuzzy! :D

Rigged- I\'ll have to experiment with some brighter lighting on a darker background. I think I may submit this miniature again with better pictures and more angles.

Squidders- Thanks for all the kind words and especially for the comment on the voting page. If you wouldn\'t mind, I\'d like to know specifically where the shading could be improved so that I can compare it to future works.

Freak- Thanks, it means a lot to me for someone to compliment my work even when they don\'t like the canvas. There were some rough areas on the mini, especially the facial symmetry. Made aligning the eyes rather difficult.

Darkart- I\'m glad you like the base! It\'s my first one and I just used what I have around my house.

Airhead- Thanks, I\'ll try to include a larger image when I submit this again. I\'m really glad the sword turned out alright. I spent a lot of time painting and repainting it. It\'s got a good thick layer of paint on it now. I\'m not really happy with the gold colors, either. I was trying for brass on the sword hilt and copper on the belt buckle. I\'m glad you like the base. I made it with sand and pebbles from my yard and some unidentified bits of plant that I trimmed small bits from because I thought they looked a bit like wheat. I\'ll ask my better half if she knows what it was because she\'s in charge of the yard.

Thanks again for all the help. I\'ll update this after I (hopefully) get some better pictures.
