I won\'t necessarily repeat the commenting I put in the pic for the figure, but I\'d really appreciate feedback on it! (I did notice an omission, though. I guess I could\'ve clarified that I was trying a new technique for painting bone - I left the word \"bone\" out. Heh.)


What could I do differently? What could I do better? I\'m genuinely curious, as I\'ve got a few more of the littler nippers to paint from the Cryx starter box.

Hey, that\'s great. There are going to be some who will give you lower marks for having gloss on the mini. Screw-em. It works. I like the contrast of gloss with dullcoat. Good colorscheme and weathering is great. If the green under the bone\'s is supposed to be glowing, there some tricks that can help that.

yeah i like it! also the glossy finish! imho the mouth bones lacks a bit of more contrast, and the glowing green would be so cool

Yeah, I\'m aiming for a glowing green effect coming from the interior through the open vents. In the process of tidying up things, though, I did a slight wash of a greenish-white mixture in the vents to even out some of the darkest corners and I think it took the edge off most of the light color in the middle.

This is an older pic pre-tidying up. It still ought be to be more... yellow? white? in the very middle of the glowing areas?

As to the gloss (going from the above pic) the dark metal areas were painted with metallics in what I hoped would be a dark iron color, but a few sealer coats of DullCote essentially sucked all the life out of \'em. I applied a hair of gloss to bring things back up to semi-shinyness, but if anyone has any suggestions on how to get an effect of non-flat metallics following Matte sealing, I\'d really appreciate \'em.

Thanks! No, don\'t have a background in historical gaming (and not a lot of TT gaming, in truth) at all, but I do like a more \"realistic\" look to my figures. At least, that seems to be the trend I\'ve been following since getting back into painting about a year ago.

Try using a Gloss varnish before doing the matt..This sometimes helps keep the slightly richer colour in metallics..
I like the overall look of the model very fitting..
The Bone could do with a little more contrast maybe some very thin brown black washes in the deepest recesses and near the metal parts..

As for the glowy green bits A mix of white and yellow in the middle to highlight and then a little of the green on the parts nearer the green to suggest light reflecting onto the surfaces..

yeah the trim were the places. Like the black think over the bone face. Looks good still. Sorry about the unclarity. I\'m not good with clarity.

Great paint job. The rustedmetal is superb. I think you should try som OSL with the glowing green stuff. It would really set off the mini IMHO. Voted.
