My first WIP, Space hulk Terminator Finished!

Hi there as youve read from the name this is my first WIP iv done, im not shore how far ill get with it as i get very little time to paint and im a realy slow painter but im going to try.

I have been itching to paint these space hulk guys for ages as there some of the best space marine models iv seen, so im hoping to be able to them justice.

Right here we go, sorry for the pic quality but they were taken in a rush.

The base wash just made from plasticard sheets and rods and painted with boltgun metal drybrushed with mithril silver then had wash's of Purple, Gryphin sehpia, Devlin mub and babab black followed by a light drybrush of mithril silver. I still need to do the rust on there with powders and wash's but ill probable leave that till the end.

The armour was fun as its the fist time iv painted such a large amount of red and done battle damage. I started of with a couple coats of watered down Mechrite red, then wash's of devlin mud and babab black, then i used a mix of mechrite red and blood red followed by a couple of coats of pure blood red. The highlights were done with blazing orange then a mix of blazing orange and vomit brown and the paint chips were done with a mix of blood red and scorched brown.

Thats it so far, i would love to here what you guys think so i know if what iv done is ok and ill try to post as often as posable.

Regards

Rich

Welcome to the WIP forum, I like the armour for me it is fine but I know some people will say the transtions are to harsh. The important question is do you like them?. I will have to keep an eye on this one too now see how you do.
All the best James

yeah i agrea, i think ill blend in the highlights a bit and i know youve all probalbly heard it a million times before but the mini looks alot better in real life than it does in the photos (honest lol!), i just cant seem to get any of my cameras to take decant pics of models.

its been ahwhile good to know you still got some stuff in the works. Im using red right now on my latest mini and its very tedious with the blending. i understand where the guys are coming from with the transitions of the highlights but i think they also need to understand that these pictures are probably close to 10x the size of the model, thus making it way easier to find flaws. keep nice work so far man keep me updated. one more thing!! comment on my warlock dude if you get the chance.

Manage to do a little bit more, iv tryed to blend some of the harsher highlights in a bit, painted the black on the left shoulder pad and base coated the inside of the cape and rope.

i also included a photo of the mess i work in.

What ever you did to soften the highlights definitely worked. Much smoother and overall looks great.

just heavily watered down a mix of blood red and blazing orange and worked it out towards the edges then a wash of watered down ball red, theres still a couple of bits iv noticed could do with tyding up but that'll have to wait till the weekend.

Looks like a good idear, i might try and make a hybrid between that and what i use already so its easy to keep the differant colours seperate.
also a bit of a bummer, im working a shed load of overtime this weekend so dont know if ill get much painting done, im already working 11hr days as is so it might not be a good idear to try my hand at sleep painting lol!

It's often the way. While there are a few people on here who can and do paint "for the camera", most people paint for what they see in their hands (and why not? After all, if you're going to play with it, you want it to look good!). Unless you have mad camera skills, the "in-hand" paint-job may well look "worse" in photos, and the afore-mentioned zoom effect doesn't help either. I've lost count of the times I've sat back looking at what I thought was a nice smooth paint-job, only to photograph it and see all the streaks and rough bits! Check out the photography articles and forum sections, if you haven't already, for advice on how to improve your photos (although they're actually not that bad!).

Oh, and the paint-work's shaping up really nicely! The smoothing you did has really helped integrate the colours. The base is nice and understated too - it should all look really great when you're done!

Hi PlattoKeefe, I like the speckled/planished effect on the shoulder plate, it's caught my eye a couple of times now :good: Cheers, B.

He's coming up pretty nicely. Don't worry about picture qual. for WIP, it's pretty clear about your smooth color skills. Keep going mate.

That red is lush. Smooth, clean, yet still dramatic. Nummy.

You sure about the cloak colour though? Brown doesn't seem to have enough pizazz for such a showy high ranker of a chapter of vampires. Reckon I'd have gone for a velvety purple myself - unless you're going for the "humble" angle them Marines can pretend to themselves they feel. :claply:

the face looks very well done I would agree the cloak could do with being a brighter colour but you have done well so far so stick to your guns:beerwave:
