Heya :)

I took part in my first Golden Demon this year, thanks to the format changes.
I\'ve just posted up my entries onto cmon, hope you like \'em.

Fantasy Large, Ogre Tyrant, Finalist.
http://www.coolminiornot.com/107486
Normally I don\'t enjoy painting large figures as much as small ones, but this guy was actually quite fun to paint.

Fantasy Single, Wood Elf Lord, Finalist.

This guy\'s hair was chipped and had to be fixed in-store. Was a right pain in the arse cause I\'d painted him with Vallejo\'s :D

LOTR Large, Mounted Arwen, Bronze Winner.

Gotta love these new Arwen models.

LOTR Single, Arwen, Bronze Winner

This was my favourite entry.

Some very nice stuff there Zordana. The ogre is great and I love the very simple but effective paintings of Arwin. You bases are very nice as well. Well deserved of the deamon you won.

The more I see of the Aussie painters the more reluctant I am to enter next year. Oh well just maybe. Thanks for showing us.

well done Zordana, and congrats again.

i really liked the tyrant, and the dangling knoblar. i thought the face on the tyrant was also well done - although the photo doesn\'t do it justice. the armour might have looked even better with a little more contrast, but that\'s just personal preference ;)

Double congratulations. I think it\'s the first time anyone has won two demon trophies using the contents of just one blister.

As (the other) man in black said..

\"Impressive! Most impressive!\"

Brushlicker and Freak!
All great, but I like the Wood elf lord, dark and menacing and the Arwen on foot is fantastic.

To be honest I\'m surprised I beat you, if I look very closely I think I might have edged you out on blending smoothness on the clothes, but in terms of composition and basing yours is waay better :)

Also the eyes are fantastic, how do you do them? I\'m really not too good at eyes, hate the damn little things.

That\'s quite funny Trevor, wasn\'t yours the Legolas silver? I\'ve heard from a couple of sources that his eyes were quite lovely! I couldn\'t see on the day cause single was put on the top shelf and I\'m a shorty, plus I think both my Arwen and yours (if it was your legolas) were angled a little strangely so I couldnt see faces well. Next time Ill wear platforms or something ;)

As for the eyes: I just fill in the eyes with black ink, then if its a laaady ill thicken the top edge to give her the illusion of eyelashes (like Arwen). The eyeball is then painted in off white or cream, leaving the outline in black.

The irises are painted on in a circlular shape (obviously ;)) with a dark colour, then with a much lighter version I will highlight the bottom iris edge then with white ill dot a reflection spot thingy.
If the eyes are particularly tiny I don\'t bother too much or I drive myself batty trying to get them right.

I think it was Eric who taught me that particular iris method... Im still practising though and I think I kinda suck :D

Arwens eyes were horribly hard to paint, her left (our right) had a sculpting issue. There was a ball of metal in her eyeball and it made it very hard for me to paint her irises. As a result she does look very slightly cross eyed in real life, more so in photos cause they are larger :) It\'s one of the reasons she was placed as bronze I believe.
I think in the end I repainted that annoying eye about 5 times. *shakes a fist*

I was really happy with how the Wood Elf lords face turned out. Nice and masculine but with a tiny hint of femininity which I thought was fitting for an elf. ;)

On the day there were a few placings that surprised me (most having nothing to do with my entries), I went in there a couple of days beforehand and kinda had an idea of what would place and where, and was totally off the mark in a lot of cases. In the end I guess its just a case of the judges preferring certain techniques or painting styles. Not everyone likes the same stuff, basically :D

Hehe true, but I still found the order of some placings to be odd.

that left eye on the foot version really was a bugger to paint for me aswell. i am really impressed with what you have done with your \'on foot\' version. i love the tones you have created on her flesh, your version has a much warmer feel to it!

maybe the arwen mini will turn into one of those \'uber minis\' that always seen to earn a demon,

once again congratulations!

I had to share my first \'proper\' display base with you. (the wooden base itself was made by a friend at http://dragyn.fnet.nu/)

Dont you hate it when you make changes to a mini after you\'ve already posted it on cmon? ;)
