Can I suggest that you trawl the reviews section of Pitchfork as well? They don\'t always get it right IMO - I think there\'s a definite lack of understanding of the UK music scene and UK nightlife in general, but usually the stuff they rate is almost always interesting in some way or other.
I tend to go from Pitchfork to the artist\'s MySpace page, and then to a cheeky illegal download or two if I can find one. If I like the album, I\'ll buy it.
Most of the time I\'ll just hunt down any good vinyl releases from the abum and buy those...
BBC music site is ok, as is (I\'m loathe to say...) the NME site for picking up on new bands and music. Metacritic can be useful as well - their top 30 of the year usually shows up some decent stuff. \'From There We Go Sublime\' by The Field shows up as best album of 2007. One of the best techno albums I\'ve heard in years. If you like that sort of thing

I shall give you three pieces of my music wisdom:
1. Half Man Half Biscuit (Oh, why did it take me till my 30th year to find this most erudite of two-pieces? Clever and funny all the way)
2. McLusky (now defunct, a sharp and intelligent band who were a bit different from everything else out at the time)
3. Super Furry Animals (surely the Welsh Beatles? Or maybe the Welsh Beach Boys...)
I could probably live off these three bands alone, but I\'d much rather not. Still, I really could if I had to. Current honourable mentions:
Hammell on Trial (Acidic and hilarious)
Sublime (Ska, punk, metal? All in one? You\'re pulling my leg! It farking works though)
Portishead (Re-purchased the first album for nostalgia\'s sake and I\'m amazed I lasted so long without it after I lost it first time)
Jesus and Mary Chain (only a Best Of, but I\'m getting the vibe)
Husker Du (Hardcore or what?!)
Here endeth the first lesson!

I tend to only use my ipod in the gym so most of the music on it is something I can plod away to without getting bored.
All the Queen albums are on it along with a compilation of Led Zeppelin and some other stuff that I can\'t remember.

I know this is slightly off topic but i just saw a pot noodle advert with goldie looking chain in it, i dont like them as a group but found it quite amusing.
Chronic 2001 is a good album, so is chronic and doggy style, as well as reasonable doubt by jay z, illmatic and stillmatic by nas. Blackstar (mos def and talib kweli) i would also recommend hi tek\'s hi teknology vol 2 and 3, the little brother albums Chittlin\' circuit, The minstrel show and get back. Kidz in the hall. Just to name a few more hip hop albums that you should listen to, oh and Organized konfusion and both of Pharoahe Monch\'s solo albums.
