My Iron Painter IV round 2 winner-OSL theme

http://www.coolminiornot.com/173847

Hi everyone, I just posted my round two winner from the IP IV contest over at Wyrd miniatures.

The theme was OSL and this is my second attempt at it and the first real good effect.

Thanks for your votes. Please feel free to leave comments or ask questions.

Another great Piece, nice one jeff

i think one stand out thing for me on this entry is that although you have 3 different light sources, none of them over power the scene, or each other. i dont think the effect has been over done either, occasionally people tend to over do the OSL and thats pretty much all your eye is drawn to on the model.

also well done on the dark sections of the model, personally i think thats what makes or breaks the OSL effect and you have nailed it here, well done

only critisim i can give is that i think some of the lighting looks like it could have used a little more blending, especially on the guy with the auspex, but to be honest its a very small thing and the only critisim i could find

just been and voted!

Thanks for the reply..But Im really getting tired of the vengance someone thinks they need to take on my work.

I had 26 votes sitting at 9.6 and in 2 votes I dropped to 8.9

That\'s some good sniping, an average of -0.2 for the last 2 votes. I suppose some of it has to do with the formula used which I don\'t know what it is and probably wouldn\'t understand it anyway.

EDIT: Just to clarify, it wasn\'t me, honest, guv\'.

Yup same thing happened on my tau stuff..I had a9.0 with about 50 votes..and then in about a 15 min period I got about 15 votes dropping my score almost 2 full points. it recovered some but still got shelled.

Noo I didnt think it was you and nore am I asking for people to give me 10\'s. But I would like a fair and honest vote and when its obvious that someone or a small group is deliberately knocking the score down it annoys me.

And not just to me, but to anyone.

Oh well only figures right?

In my opinion mate, the only true reflection of what this mini is scoring is the registered voters score, its just a shame that cant also be displayed alongside the regular score.

im going to chime in and say its not me either lol, but im not going to comment on any more of your work, both times i have you have been sniped... mum always told me i was bad luck

:(

Noo comment away..please do..and score me honestly..if you love the work say so..if you think its a huge pile of steaming poo say so..its what I want to hear..its the cowards that hide that annoy me..

My goal is to get better..Its been years since Ive seriously painted and Im finally feeling the energy to paint again.

I know the blue on the auspex is appearing to bright but it got to a point I could not do anyhting about it any more with the time I had left.

Cheers!

aww ok then, i will keep commenting lol

i will always score honestly, i would want the same done for me ( when i finally finish one of the many projects on the go)

i generally only comment on the things i like and i think your work appeals to me because you add a real Sci fi element to the games workshop figures you paint, rather than just the tried and tested gothic style (although that is a style of which i am also a fan of)

Thanks,

I guess my best advice to you is just finish something..might not be your best but at least its finished. Ive a table full of stuff like that that Ive been plucking away at the last month. Most is nothing special and it goes on to someone else when finished. This piece is just something Im really proud of and it just sucks when it gets nailed like that.

Feel free to email me some images if you ever want comments. or post it here and ask for them.

Thanks Jeff,

i may actually take you up on that if i have time, im currently working on a comp entry thats due at the end of the month and it has been stated that WIPs are not a good idea as the voting will be based on an anonymous pic, so i havent really had any one except the misses to ask for critique.

Theres a works in progress section..post it in there for people to comment on.. you can host your images with a free photo bucket acount..People will make comments if given the oppertunity.

haha sorry jeff i dont think my last post was that clear.
In the comp, the pic i submit should not have been seen on a public forum. no one entering will be credited for painting their model until after the public has voted on them and the results are posted.

i think its so that people will judge and vote on only the model and not just vote for people they know or be swayed by any big names, hence the reason i havent posted it in the WIP forum and my girlfried has had to put up with two months of....what d\'ya think of this?lol

Oh ok Yeah I didnt understand that. So I can understand your not wanting to post especially if its the rules of the contest.

Good luck with it.

That is FANTASTIC!! That each element has a different color really is a feast for the eyes. The Scarabs are especially cool.

Hey love the work, one small piece of c and c. For your next mini maybe try adjusting the amount of light the source puts out, for example it looks to me like the tiny light on the crons are putting out the same light as the auspex which is putting out close to the same light as the flamer. Like i said nit picky and this is far better than i could do just an idea
