Hi, I have been on CMON for almost a year but this is my first post in the forum. I know that there are lots of really talented people here, and I am humble to be among you. I am trying to improve the level of my painting.

This is my latest mini, I\'ve done a little touching up since the pic, but I would still like to get some constructive advice.

Welcome Pixi, you will find a great deal of help here at the boards.
The whole family looked at your work and here is what we thought,
We all agree you have done a great job with an hard to paint mini. Hats off to talent and bravery for you for posting and getting to know the forum!
For help ...well
the consensus was such a nice face and great hair for sure. you have control and abilities with your brush.
A mention next was there is a lot of highlights, this makes it look silky but it maybe too much, the question was are there enough mid tones? That is a great problem to have here on Cmon, strong highlights are an easy fix when you want just wash with the mid color or you can go with opposite color to add depth to the shadows.
The top of staff is very very nice with the gem, two of us think maybe the highlights on the rod it self might have been better to have been on the side closest to her to match the light that is coming from above from the looks of the clothing highlights.
I looked at the background it is very hard to take pictures on green....matter of fact it is the worst to take pictures on for me. It has given me issues before and I am guessing since i see a shadow it is a piece of paper or something.
Changing colors may also help the mini photo better, a neutral color gray or a lot of people here use the blue gradient... I use a black primed box but thats just odd.

I hoped some of this helps and the four of us really give you kudos and hope to see much more of your work around here
Cheers

Thank you TABstudio for both the warm welcome and the comments, that was great!:bouncy:

The background is actually just a matter of what I have at hand, and yes it is a piece of paper. I tried black before, but my camera just doesn\'t seem to like it very much for some reason or another...:)

I think you are right about the highlights, both on the staff and on the dress, maybe I\'ll try to do some retouch. I am quite hapy about the robe though, considering it started out like a total mess:rolleyes::)

I took a look at your paintjobs, and wow, you have some really great pieces. I simply loved your \"Fire\"-- wish I had boobs like that:yes:

PS. This was just my latest mini, feel free to chack out my gallery, although it is no where near the high standard of yours!

What Tab said. :D

Plus don\'t ever feel humble about your work. 2 reasons:
1 it makes you feel good doing it.
2 It\'s good work and you should feel proud of your achievements.

Welcome to the forum.
As the mini, it\'s really nice and the painting too ;) I\'d tend to agree with ogrebane on the face needing contrast. But as far as the rest goes, it looks good.
For the background you should try and find one that goes from white to blue, I had a link somwhere to print one but can\'t seem to find it. Maybe somebody els can help you there :D

Thanks again for the replies!:) I\'ve been thinking about taking new pics of her for a while, but just haven\'t gotten around to it. I think her face might be slightly washed out in these pics, maybe...:?

Hi, I tried printing one out from Publisher, and this is how it turned out:

What do you think? I\'ve also fiddeled abit with the mini itself, and I hope it at least didn\'t get any worse... Now I noticed that the highlight on the robe looks a bit weird.

Ok, this is a bit insane:eek: When I posted her on a green surface she got a 4.9 or something. At the moment she\'s on 7.4!!! It is still abit early to tell what she will end on, but still... How can the same mini get a 4 and a 8? ???

Thank you for the compliment devoncodain, and thank you for voting everyone!:)

Dont take to much stock in the marks here,

you can see your mini clearer and all the details come through on the new background, using the green background ditracted from the model and made the cloak kind of blend in,

All in all a good job here solid 8 from me,

Cheers

That\'s just the nature of the beast. Bad pictures of good minis often score lower than good pictures of bad minis. All anybody has to really go on is the picture you submit.

If it was possible to submit a super-high-def 3D virtual reality image of the mini that allowed everybody to nearly hold it in their hand, the votes would be closer to what it actually should be. No word yet on when that\'s coming out tho! lol

So like the fish said, don\'t worry too much about the votes. Comments (ala the forum) are usually more productive. Now excuse me, I\'ve got to go back into Excel to register the latest vote changes on my figures.:D

Me again!

Hi, I\'ve been struggeling with painting metal for a long time, and I am curious about what you think of the metal in the mini above, on the ornament. And also on my third last mini, Lucrezzia Belladonna. Am I on the right track?

Here\'s a close up:
