My Latest Project - Helms Deep!

Hey all. Thought Id share a few pics of what will now become my Next Big Thing (tm). When I got home from work and saw this thing with a blanket draped over it i thought Id been bought a new chair.....

The cost of this monstrosity from the carboot sale : £9.50, one slightly panicy girlfriend, one girlfriends father with injured neck from trying to carry the thing. Oh, and the models pictured were included about 30 odd plastics, plus Gandalf on shadowfax, and a FotR Legolas, Aragorn and Frodo.

Oh, errr... ignore the fairy house in the bottom right of the first piccy. Thats one of my girlfriends modelling projects.

Damn! It seems like everyone is making wonderful \'finds\' at garage sales lately...

That is very cool. What are your plans for it?

That translates to around $15 usd, right?

That is an awesome find. 40 figures for that price is a good find, and the castle is just a bonus!
That castle is like Tofu! - a chef once told me \"tofu needs a lot of help, but it really rewards that help.\" Can\'t wait to see what you do with it.

p.s. A girlfriend who builds mini fairy houses is also an awesome find!

As for my plans, well if you could see closeups, youd see a lot of polystyrene painted like rock, which still looks like polystyrene, so im going to buy a lot off wallfiller and sand and sort that out. The ground is a section of green bedsheet, so thats gotta go too. The brick effect on the walls is drawn on in pencil so thats another thing im going to change. It wont be a \"historicaly accurate\" depiction of helms deep, (the contruction itself is pretty solid) but it should still look pretty damn good by the time im done. I dont play anymore, so ill probably use it as a backdrop for my photos. Thinking about it, should I lose interest, then ive got something for the next mini exchange lol

The previous owners were children who had a love of LotR and the minis, buying the Battle Games In Middle Earth series when that was available. Im guessing when they saw Games Workshops real prices they lost interest

Ill open up a WIP section on my site and post pics whenever possible. Incidentally, can anyone suggest a couple of good minis for use as the statues that are part of the main doorway?

[edit] for you vince, the one on the left is by my Gf\'s mother, the middle one by the Gf, and the last one by my Gf\'s sister

and on occasion the Gf paints minis too!
