My models - they\'re gone...

Oh no.

I came back from work last night, and as I went into my room a truly horrible sight met my eyes.

My shelves had fallen down.

These aren\'t just regular shelves, they are (or rather \"were\") suspended six feet off the floor (I\'m tall so they\'re at my eye level).

They fell off the wall, and tumbled to the ground, taking with them a sizeable chuck of the models I\'d acquired over the last six years.

The models on the bottom shelf got it worst. Although they had the smallest distance to fall, they then got two heavy plywood shelves full of models crash down on top of them.

The large majority of the figures are basically okay, just flattened noses and snapped off arms.

However...

The large models were completely smashed. My resin models simply shattered. The Evil Emperor Burns I was working on to accomapany my Darth Smithers (3621) is in lots of very small splinters. My Imperial Titans now resemble craters.

My Inquisitor Scale (yep, that\'s right, he really is Inquisitor Scale) Marine (3619) is now in 23 pieces, and chipped to buggery.

My Koralon Broodmaster has no appendages and is bent backwards so badly it looks like it\'s doing the limbo.

My Inquistor Warband (4047 admidst others) was spread over a very wide area. Not even the heavy-duty pinning they\'s had could have saved them.

My Cauldron of Blood should now be called the \"Banana of Blood\" as it\'s shaped like one.

Don\'t even get my started on my dragons...

Most of my friends don\'t understand my loss, but you all hopefully will.

Oh Man, what a tragedy! I don\'t know what to say except I\'m sorry for ya and I hope this doesn\'t smother your love for the hobby.

Let this be a lesson to all fo us: If you put your models on shelves or in cases, make *sure* they are solid and secure. Perhaps, since I\'m also a carpenter, I\'ll write an article on building cases & shelves...

I know that when a good percentage of my Mech collection was stolen after a Con, I cuodl not bear to do this for a month or so.

One kinda hopes there\'s some way to \"Ctrl-Z\" the whole incident. On the other hand, it would be kinda interesting (after the proper mourning period), to hear about how you restored some of your models (Maybe a series of articles regarding repairs and restoration?).

Firstly my condolences, on your tragic loss. Destroyed hard work is never easy to overcome. However you must literally pick up the pieces and restore those that you think you cannot.
From a philosophical point of view think of this as a challenge thrown at you by Fate. It will either break you or make you stronger.

I suffered a similar situation in that I was plagued into building and painting a Dragon for my Mother- in-law who after owning it for less than ten minutes promptly dropped it, shattering the wing joint and distorting said wing. Not to mention the ruined paint job.
That tore me up for a while but I got over it and improved both my painting and construction. I hope that you can do the same.

Hey guys,

Cheers for all the support. Thanks to your encouragement I\'ve started to put my models back together, and have written the first draft of an article detailing my efforts to rebuild my Inquisitor Marine.

In a way this tragedy is a blessing in disguise as it means I can put right all those things on the models that weren\'t quite up to scratch when I did them the first time round.

I think a friend of mine might be the best person to empathize with you. He came home from work and his mother in law had decided that he was spending too much time with his hobby and had thrown out all of his figures and game supplies. Unfortunately it was trash day so they were all gone. I felt she needed to have an \"accident\". But he just went out and bought replacements and started over. It was a setback but he\'s painted and sold the same chaos army several times now and each revision has shown improvement. He just looked at it as a chance to fix all the paint jobs he wasn\'t happy with. Like many people, most of my display pieces that I painted years ago aren\'t as good as the stuff I painted in the last month. If you dwell on the tragedy it will just drive you crazy.

small tip though, next time do not make them on walls, as I have had the same problem, though thankfully not with mini\'s. A bookcase which has sides is by far more sturdy and holds more than enough, maybe an idea for now?

I feel your pain...

I feel your pain... while my loss isn\'t as great as yours, I feel some vindication in that I had someone to blame for my misfortune.
Last month at a tourney, I paid a visit to the restroom between rounds, and returned to find one of my Chessix cases (the gray plastic kind with the foam inserts) containing my Space Marines Scout Squads on the floor, and some people hurriedly picking them up. needless to say I have about 20 ruined paintjobs... at about 3 hours per mini... ugh.

Case Design

That is the worst thing that I have ever heard. Was it one long explosion of cursing? Glad to hear you are feeling better now. Being philosophical is better for your health anyway.

I built a case from hardwood veneered plywood and glass and mounted it into the wall of my basement. I am connecting the lights later this week. I\'ll post a shot when I do. It cost about $200 with the wood and glass. I have the original plans if anyone is interested. It is rock solid and has plenty of light and room. And it can be locked. I almost have a toddler, can\'t be too paranoid.

Hang in there man.

I\'d start by burning her wardrobe: \"You\'ve been spending too much time fussing about what to wear.\" Then I\'d pour sugar-water into her gas tank, \"You\'ve been spending *way* too much time driving.\" And maybe for toppers I\'d kick her bloodthirsty butt to the curb. \"You\'ve been lounging around my house destroying my property for far too long.
