Guess who sanded through the bottom of his first bottle (too)?

Still, the glass bead suggestion was great, that's helping already, and I'm sure I'll perfect the sander next attempt. Mine doesn't use velcro, so I'll have to think of some other way of having a barrier. Perhaps just gravity or pressure on a rag in between?

I'm having fun getting my stuff out and repairing it. Last final on Tuesday. Just have to study more than I obsess on minis right now...

tell me you didn't actually go through the bottle and make a paint mess.
I just have a couple bottles with really rough bottoms now.
You could try putting a bunch of paints in a can or something and attaching that to the sander. Just a thought. I'm good with doing one at a time as needed.

To be read in a light humourus manner.

I'm finding it hard to believe that people who paint mini's and make complex structures (models) can't or haven't thought about:-
Velcro strips + Thick plasticard (Styrene sheet) + Jubilee clips = Bottle holder.

I was thinking I'd just try duct tape. Could tape several down at once...then reuse the same tape a couple times, I'd reckon.

I managed to sand a little hole, but it wasn't a big mess. I also like 1-per try, because of the way I saw you rotate the bottle while it was on the sander, I thought that would probably make for higher quality mixing.
I also have no idea what jubilee clips are, but I'd be curious.

Me too. If it's beyond paint, a brush and an xacto knife I'm really clueless.
Heck, I don't even have any plasticard. If I need some flat surface I cut up an old credit card.

Update: I used the sanding method on all 72 bottles of vallejo game color, and 7 bottles of GW foundation series.
All that was necessary was to put a washcloth over the sander, hold it on with my hand, and then I could apply the bottle as shown in the video.
All 7 GW foundation appear usable (sweet!).
1 Vallejo bottle failed when the tip of the dropper was severed when I tried to pull off the cap using a pair of pliers.
2 Vallejo bottles failed because their cap won't stay on reliably. Holding the bottle upside and squeezing results in the cap popping out and paint going everywhere.

I tested the flow of each bottle after I sand-shaked it. Most were very usable viscosities that could be thinned in a palette later if necessary.
Some of the ones I'm worried about are too thin now. I might see if re-shaking them helps the mixing; maybe a lot of pigment is still stuck to the walls.

I expect them all to be usable, and I start painting on Wednesday!
