My new Tau

So I have started the first phases of my tau army, I have my first mini done to figure out the color scheme.

the base green is orkhide shade with snot green highlights and a light dark green inking (the old citadel inks), the black is chaos black with codex grey highlights.

the gun is reaper shadowed steel with devlan mud wash and the furniture is reaper brown (sample bottle so unsure of the exact color, replacing is going to be a fun one) with a flesh wash

i used shadow grey for the skin and the same brown for the hooves, all the blue is enchanted blue.

let me know what you all think, the idea was based off of the look of american WWII colors, with a basic green, some black and silvered and wood weapons, I took some liberties so this isn't meant to be an exact copy it is just based off of it.

anyway here is the first model, my converted fireblade;

Looks fine for tabletop, but the pics are rather blurry, so the detail is hard to make out. Try putting the camera on top of a pile of books rather than holding it when you take the pic. Use a timer if your camera has one. Other than that, I'd say the colors are all quite dark, so maybe using a lighter color somewhere in there might break it up a little. Hope that helps :)

Hi, it looks ok for beginning. WWII colour its good idea, it have good potential. You havent done bases for that mini and mini without bases are dull and soulless. even simple bases can give spark of life for your mini.
For me tau scheme is all about match planet environment. So if you choose your colour try to figure out how to make base to match your colour scheme. Green colour means a lot of plant life on bases and is hard to done it well, thats why I stick with basic colour scheme and desert bases because its easy to make: sand, some rocks, and plant from time to time.
And there is one more things that you miss - sept markings. For my yellow/orange tau I choose black as colour sept so sept marking will stand out. I think you should do the same. When you havent mark your squad differently larger army can look like clone army from Star Wars :p

good advice there on the bases, tau work so well like that

I think the paint is a little thick in places like the gun handle, thin them down a bit :) Also to complete me being a bumhole there are a few mold lines - i know its a test figure but if it is drilled into you then you will save wasting time in the future.

I like the idea but don't really like the placement of the colours, the green boots look odd to me, maybe do them black and the trousers brown? Probably best to paint up a few with different areas blocked in and see which one you prefer. If you like it then that is the most important thing though as its your army!
