My newest project!

Hi all!

OK, so some of you may know that I dabble in scultping. Up till now almost all things I did were for me \'practice sessions\'. Not really worth finishing etc.

This has changed, I am now somewhat more confident in my skills.

Enter project Mara!

This will become a full fledged miniature (statuette) in which I display all my skills and efforts. It is also a vision of all I want miniatures to be. For some first in progress shots head to www.miez.nl/putty-n-paint
and look her up in the gallery. Yes, she is a female, and as I say in the header there it is not a secret. But I do like to play a little game, can you guys guess what she will become?

I am slaving away at her ATM (in my spare time from writing my PhD thesis :() and I am determined to finish her up. Also I mean to sculpt her so that so may be cast up (resin for certain) but if she will be cast is the next thing...

Anyway, please tell me what you think so far....

I think she looks amazing so far. From a painter\'s point of view I might have liked a 72mm scale model more, but I don\'t think the few mm\'s make any difference at that scale.

A question: have any of miniatures been cast already? Because there\'s some very good stuff at your site.

WOW!!

Hey, I love Mara. She\'s looking excellent even in her \'early stages\'. I\'ve bookmarked your site so I can keep up with your progress.

I agree with Gerrie, you have some very nice stuff on your site :D

Thanks!

My aim with this mini is to create an unique image. The unusual scale might help. No way you can play a game with this mini (surprise me?), it is purely for display purposes and the painter of course. Oh, and 72 mm, isn\'t that the scale of Reaper\'s Sophie? I can\'t compete with that sculptor ;)

Some of my work has been cast up but never for commercial purposes. As I said the figures on my site are all just practice pieces. They were made in the last four years and I think there has been a definate progress which I am very happy with.

Lastly, and I think this may be long overdue, I want to openly thank sensei Steve for all his help. may I one day become as good as he!

Yeah it is, but I thought it was some kind of standard scale, such as 28 and 54 mm...

Nope, not a showgirl! ;) She will also get a sword

And Corvus, you are probably right that 72 mm is a proper scale. I seem to recall something along those lines. But as I said I am not a proper sculptor :D

Stop telling lies man, you\'re a talent. And a pretty damn big one if you ask me

Hehehe....

OK... I won\'t tell lies then....

Truth is I do still have quite a way to go, but I think i can do it ;)
the scale was not predetermined, I just selected a pose form some artwork, scanned it, resized until I was satisfied and worried about the scale later... Before posting I measured the size and found it 80 mm :)

Another truth, she will be an Angel! rather, an angelic warior. My sources of inspiration are many. Royo because he does half naked fantasy chicks. Looks looking at his work inspires me. Spyglass minis because I think there is almost no sculps out there with such attention to pose and drama. Witchblade ... look at the armor, cross it woth Spyglass\'s 54mm bride and you see the inspiration. And, finally, Art Deco/Jugendstil patterns: the grace and finesse of the style in this period of art is unparallelled.

So, big wings, sword point down in front, hands on pommel kind of pose. long hair and some thin gown here or there, and all a bit blown forward by a small gust of wind to add that little drama :)

Those are my plans. I love angels, but I feel there are not too many succesful (read: how I would want them to look :) )fantasy angels out there..

Wow Ramon, Beautiful work! put me down for one when you get her cast up! Are you using supersculpey for the main body? ??? A couple of little things to look at, the right thigh looks a bit larger than the left, it may be the photo though. Also the ankles look a little on the thin side compared to the rest of the leg..

Hi Kat,

Thanks! I hope she will be cast up as wel ;)

The body is FIMO, which is, essentially, the same as Super Sculpey. Hence the need for resin casting....

As for the issues you mentioned, yes, good eye :) The right thigh is somewhat too large. I saw it as well (very strange that a lot becomes visible only when looking at photographs...) this morning and it will be dealt with

The ankles and feet are also not yet done, the FIMO is sort of a \'canvass\' on which I will continue. On top of the baked FIMO I am using a mix of FIMO & greenstuff btw... Perfect for this type of work. But you are certainly right that the ankle and feet need work. I am already dreading doing the feet..... Together with the hands these are the most difficult things to sculpt (heads are pretty easy).

Just added more to her neck and started on her shoulders... Going well!

Mark me donw in the \"Holy S**t! That\'s beautiful!\" column.

However, never say no way a mini can be used in a game. SOme enterprising soul will come up with a way lol Say perhaps a demon princess of Slaanesh - extra large. ;)

The article looks very nice, too. Have downloaded it to my \"sculpting tips\" folder. Thanks.
