So here is my cadian sergeant i spent the last few days on.
http://www.coolminiornot.com/72232
I have painted some hands but i really dont know what to stick on him since nothing looks satisfying.
All the stormbolters or special weapons look too big in comparison.
Furthermore i want to ask you what do you think about my painting and how to improve AND if you can tell from this picture what the heck did i wrong?
I adjusted everything as well as possible but still the light (I have to take pictures this dark because otherwise everything you can see are white spots and reflections from the metallic parts) and the rez is really dissapointing.
I appreciate every answer :D

Nice work I voted and left a comment. As for a weapon how about a sword from the WHFB skeleton plastic sprues. :D

Nice work! (also posted a comment)

Did you balance the levels and colour in photoshop, or anything like that? I downloaded the picture and made some small adjustions and the pic looked much better.

I BTW have sort of the the same trouble when photographing.. And even worse, the details look messy. But I got to get myself better lightning.. and perhaps borrow a better camera.

my suggestion is a mechanical claw.. =) or a hook perhaps.

Hey there, what kind and make of digicam do you have ? Best not to buy a new one if you can do better stuff with what you have already got, I just think the lighting is all you need to fix, and maybe the levels in photoshop afterwards.

Can\'t really comment on the painting, because it looks bloody great :D Love this style.

yea you hear \"Photoshop\" from all sides but i really dont want to spend lots of money for a photo app ;(

i got a jenoptik camera (its a german enterprise i guess) so i dont think you know about
model: JD 4.1 x z3
here\'s a link with all the data of my camera: http://www.jenimage.com/index.php?id=98&type=0
you think the requirements are enought?
if yes, what the hell do I do wrong? ^^

averlon can you send me the pictures or something?
my email is spirit-insane@web.de
would be great!

And i really like the idea of a lightning claw, maybe an imperial powerfist with a few knifes or yarriks fist will do :)

Get a fluorescent strip light lamp. It gives a diffuse light that is not too bright. Otherwise do a search on here for \"light box\" and make one of those, or put some baking paper over your lamp.

Also you can increase the white balance on your camera a little if it has that feature.

As for painting, it looks like a solid 8 (little difficult to tell with the dark pic). Thats damn good. Higher scores require extensive conversion, perfect freehand, blends smoother than a babies bottom, scenic base, flashing lights, uplifting music and some luck avoiding the snipers...

look at my sig for the spot that says I am brilliant (Finn lies, but I like to hear it.)

You dont have to go to that extreeme, but a window sheer tented over the mini will help a bunch.

Google search GIMP. or look for MS Picture-It. Picture It comes bundled with lots of start-up packages and GIMP is free, but I cannot find the auto buttons for the level and contract.

ok i now have \"purchased\" Photoshop and took some new pics of my minis.
If you compare these two,
Old and New,
you might see a little difference in the qualitiy of the pictures.
Im really satisfied with the result.

I still think you should get a strip light, they are very cheap. Also get a blue - white fade background that really helps as well.

The blue to white fade is a must IMO realy and the strip light Trevor mentioned will give you better results. Although when lighting minis painted with metallics it does sometimes make the metallics too shiny.

excuse my stupidity but what actually is a strip light?
edit: ah ok thats

a strip light
but why do you rocommend that for taking pics? isnt it quite difficult to handle? on all the guides here on cmon people use old fashioned desk lights or shop lights with clamps
