My Painting Academy WiP

Hello,

I recently joined the Golem Painting Academy and this thread is where I shall share my progress. My name is Ste and I've been dipping in and out of the hobby for a long time. It's not as though I have never painted before, I have plenty of project logs over on Warseer where I'm known as Abraham Danglebreech, but the training at Golem is to get us to a level where we can paint quickly and to a good standard, which pretty much means starting from scratch. I've only been to two sessions so far and I already see my previous paint jobs in a different light. I have started using spray paints for undercoating and a hairdryer for speeding up drying times on the various stages of painting, neither of which I have done before (which I am kicking myself for. The WEEKS I have wasted waiting for paint to dry over the years!). Our attention at the moment is on painting armies to a good table top standard and the training is currently centered on painting a chaos warrior.

Some of the other folks in the Academy have already posted this image in the forum. Here it is again.....

Mine is the one on the far right and as with the other models was painted in an hour. Painting a mini in an hour isn't something I would normally do and so I was very much out of my comfort zone, which was actually rather nice. Painting minis is by it's nature a sedentary affair, but being up against the clock got the heart beating a bit faster and I had a daft smirk on my face the whole time. Later we had a group crit and discussed each others painted warrior of chaos. I enjoyed this very much. I love getting feedback on forums as it is a great motivator, and I have learned a lot from it, but actually having an hour to talk specifically about the pros and cons of your painting with the other painters in front of you is hard to beat.

These are some of the last minis I painted before I started at the academy

Now, these were not speed painted but it will be interesting to see how my painting develops as I post my progress at Golem here (I can already see some fumbled flat-brushed highlights that I hadn't really noticed before!)

Next lesson is tomorrow and I'm looking forward to it.

Thanks for looking. Comments welcome :)
