My painting=epic fail

I\'m a lousy painter, I\'ll admit it. I\'m great at modelling, but my painting is :cussing:! I have practiced and practiced, but artistic talent just isn\'t in my DNA.
So, what I am looking for is a painting service that will give me a little above tabletop quality (I\'m using the \"2 feet away they look good\" rule). I don\'t need award-winning-showcase-painting, just good old-fashioned gaming level.

I am located in the US, so stateside would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance!

Before you give up on painting, what do your minis look like?

Post a couple of photos and maybe someone can tell you where you\'re going wrong.

Why not use a dip method of army painting? There is a tutorial on speed painting Orks with a synopsis on how to \'dip\' paint. Well worth the read and possibly the effort.

That\'s all I got though; no recommendations on painting services. (Sorry, mate!)

Actually, that\'s a really good idea! Bascoat, dip, highlight if I want, then mattespray it closed.

I guess I should use white primer, but which company, suggestions?

I\'d just use automotive white primer. Most chain parts stores should carry it.

I wonder if a faster way would be to hit them all with primer, then with a spray can of base coat, any quick details (pouches, etc) then do a dip/wash followed by a highlight.

I could see that being no more than an afternoon\'s worth of work.

There\'s some good sprays at Wal Mart and they are very cheap too at 96 cents each. The brand is called Colorplace. I use Flat Black and Flat White without any problems. They have other colors too but most are glossy.

If you\'re using the Colorplace sprays, prime no more than a half dozen figures at a time, as the primer drys really fast, and if you are spraying a large group some of the dry dust tends to settle on the figures toward the edges, making a fuzzy effect. 6 or less figures and you are golden! (It\'s well worth it to me considering the price).

As far as wood stain goes, I have used Minwax Polyshades (you want a stain that has polyurethane varnish in it as well), \"Antique Walnut\" shade, which is their darkest color. It certainly did the job very well. All you will need is a couple cans of Testor\'s Dullcote to get rid of the shine.
