What a selfish post-title, isn\'t it?

It\'s just that I have a small question.
I\'ve been lurking the gallery-part of this site for over a looong time now, and was quite frankly a bit resentful of putting my own paintjobs in between all those works of art.

I have however decided it was time to come \"out of the closet\" so I have created my gallery : http://www.coolminiornot.com/browse/submitter/Quase

All nice and dandy you\'d say, but I\'ve got one small \"problem\" : I am getting a rating, which I like so far, but I still do not know what people actually think of the figs.
So if anyone could be so kind as to give me some pointers on my figs... what can be improved, what are definate nonos, what should I continue doing, in short : I\'m looking for constructive, positive or negative, critisism.
It would be greatly appreciated and taken into account for future paint-projects (no, I will not be reworking what has been done; I\'ve got way too many unpainted figs awaiting their paintjobs)

Cheers

Welcome to the forums Quase :)

My input to help is to get a background paper and use it for your photos even construction paper or typing paper.

Hope this helps..

Quase;

Nicely painted stuff. Liked the river trolls the better of the two.

Here\'s my advice:
First of all the trolls. The gloss coating does make them look wet, but it really messes with the pics, and most of the folks around here don\'t like a shinny finish. I think it works OK on this one. They are pretty nicely painted.

On the inquisitor, I think he has a decent paintjob, but your picture is killing you. I took your picture, pulled it into Photoshop and spent 5 seconds adjusting the levels, and this is what it looks like:

I agree with TAB, follow that article on photography...better pictures will get you a better score.
The inquisitor paintjob is clean and simple, but the best he will score without a better base would be about a 4.5 - 5. Get some sand, ballast, flock or something to cover the raw base in and your score will probably go up immediately.

I hope some of this is helpful. And most of all, keep lookingat the galleries, and reading the articles if you really want to improve. Oh, and welcome to the forums!!!

Cheers,
Grumb

welcome!

I commented and voted on both. I think the best way to improve is doing what you are doing. Ask for comments and then try to implement them. There are some very smart and talented people here. (then theres a few of them like me!).

Good luck.

Thanks for the welcome, and thanks for reworking the pic! Wow, that does change quite a bit.

As for the base, this is my one and only fig that hasn’t been based. Reason? My opponent for whom I painted it still (after playing this army for well over 2 years) hasn’t decided how he wants his bases.
Now although bases really do finish a model (I’ll be amongst the first to tell this to other people) when a base is different from the rest of the armys’ bases it just becomes plain ugly.

And yes, the gloss finish is there for theone and only reason they are River Trolls. Slimy sort of is inherent to them.

ah well..

Those two things you addressed in your previous post, are the things I commented on for your pics.

The comments will show up after the moderator has a look at them...;)
