My Saga of dealing with a moronic 0 rating E-bay bidder

About 3-4 weeks ago. One of my E-bay auctions closed and after having over 200 hits and 10 watchers the item sold for only 10 bucks. That was disapointing but what can you do? So I sent the invoice to the buyer who had a 0 rating and had only opened his account 4 days before that. I expected trouble. Boy was I right. 4 Days go by after the auction and then a week. I e0mail the guy and he says how sorry he is and that he sent out his payment via snail mail the day before. Here is the thing, due to problems with the mail and moronic bidders I only accept Pay Pal (for those who have a positive history I will gladly accept a MO).

I wait another week and no money so I opened up a dispute. Well below in descending order(from last to first) is the responses between us. I thought you would all get a giggle at this guy\'s responses. To protect the stupid I have changed his name and to protect my good name I am only listing it as seller as opposed to my account name.(For further giggles I kept his grammer unchanged).

Buyer: Im not sure what to do here , you tell me what to do , you say you dont have the money order , i dont
want to pay a $7.00 USD fee to stop a $15.00 USD money order , tell me what i should do

Me:I cannot send back what I never got, hence the reason I opened this dispute!

Buyer:Ok , then send the money order back , sorry for the mix up

Me:My auction stated Pay Pal only.

Buyer: I must have sent the money order to the wrong address , the reciept shows it wasnt cashed , sorry for
the trouble

At least you still have the mini, even if the guy was a hassle. My latest eBay fiasco has churned my stomach to ebay completly. Nothign liek paying $300 for an empty envelope.

I have an unwritten rule, that I won\'t spend more on eBay (at once) than I would not mind being out after a night of moderate drinking. So maybe about $30-40 CDN. That I could lose and chalk up to experience, but $300... ooh. That sucks.

I\'m quite new to eBay and am already having to take a seller to task. I paid for the thing and have waited 1 month - no mini, no response to 3 emails It\'s only a couple of bucks but it\'s the principal.:cussing:

I\'ve had simular experiences, but I have not been ripped off yet. I think the good far outways the bad on ebay, it\'s a great tool, and if using paypal, at least you will get your money back eventually if something goes wrong.
Watchers mean nothing on ebay, I had 35 once, and got 4 bids, mind you it was enough to get what I was hoping for. It only takes 2 bidders that want the mini to up the price.
Chin up, and just think, when you re-auction this mini, you might get a better price, good luck :D

In your side bar under my ebay go to

my account

Then if you go to
buyer requirements
open the edit window and you will find the cures you need.

You can click off boxes then apply
It can stop bidders with o feedback or so many # negatives.
You can restrict to paypal only
There are many restrictions you can apply.

I hope this will help.

I just gotta say that I\'ve had nothing but good things happen on Ebay for me, every time I\'ve dumped on a LotD army they go like hot cakes. Any new members on ebay always need a little guidance, I found the thing a little daunting myself when I first joined up, but a chap in America helped me out no end and I\'ve had no real problems since, overall a bit of patience goes a long way.

Wow Onis. Thats terrible news. I hope you used PayPal. I NEVER deal without it.

I think its pretty easy to spend $300 on eBay.Especially when you are buying armies. I got my Ogre army boxset two years ago and it came to 200+ US.

Several years back, I sold off my MtG via ebay. What a learning experience that was. The surprising one was a guy that won an acution for about $20. He had over 200 positive and no negative, won the auction then never got in touch with me. No money, no paypal, no email - nothing.

Another guy didn\'t want to pay my S&H fees - I put rares in hard covers and padded envelopes. Told him that S&H was upfront and he bid knowing the price. But let him out of the auction without a negative.

Adie, and any other new to Paypal:

I have a second checking account just for my paypal use. If someone was to crack my paypal, they\'d get about $40 at most.

Pics of your goods are like pics here on CMON. If it is great with bad pics, don\'t expect it to sell well.

If something is expected to cost extra to ship, let them know up front. I hate to see someone make the sale costs back on S&H, but I don\'t mind paying fair prices. (I once saw an \'antique knife\' for sale for $1 but had $100 S&H - not a good selling practice in my book)

As a buyer, be aware of scams - Western Union is a big tip-off. Follow up \'second-chance\' emails are often scams as well.

Ebay and PayPal are going to hit you with fees. Hopefully your stuff has enough margin to overcome that.

I started selling minis over eBay this summer, and it has been great fun. My hobby is now officially self-sustaining. :D

There are a few risks if you are a seller, but I\'ve never experienced the issues myself. First and foremost, a buyer can dispute a paypal payment and get your checking account locked (google for paypal horror stories.) The lesson there is to always use a form of post that tracks status, like USPS Priority Mail, or like Airhead use a separate checking account. Obviously from beowulfthehunter\'s experience a dimwitted buyer can cause a delay, but that\'s more inconvenient and frustrating than really harmful.

As an eBayer, my only bad experience has been as a buyer. Selling has been big fun, and has led to commission work on the side.

Shawn, File a dispute if you haven\'t already. You have a very limited time in which to dispute a transaction.

My experience buying has been mostly good. I bought a couch and had it shipped from California. I found later that a shill bidder had pushed the price up $100 but I still got it for considerably less than retail.

I\'ve had some minor problems selling and my wife had a big problem, but they were all with Paypal, not ebay per se. Paypal always stands by the buyer. Just don\'t leave any cash in your Paypal account. As soon as you get paid, sweep it into your bank.
