My second fantasy figie ever.

hello,

I would like to show you some pictures of my second fantasy figure I'm painting. This time it's a metal one by Rackham, also 28 mm. The flesh parts I consider done, although the legs and feet will get more shading I thin. The face mask is also about ready. All other parts are in a state of progress. As can be seen I'm still struggling a lot with my NMM's and with my picture taking. Please let me know what I can do to improve this figure and any faults you might find.

Many thanks in advance,

Gino

Great work so far :) A little more dark and light on your NMM gold I think - and those lenses are just beautiful!

Hello Zab,

Thank you very much for your nice comments. I'm new to this world of fantasy, so there's a lot I need to learn. I'will add more highlights to the gold with Glossy white and darken the shadows with Matt Black. Thank you very much for the tip.

Cheers,

Gino.

Hey Gino. I agree with Zab - those lenses are fabulous.

As a complete newbie I'll leave it up to the voices of experience to advise you on the NMM. What other colours are you considering using? At the moment he's quite monotone with the orange.

Hello Archarad,

The only orange is the head of the steamhamer and parts of the face mask. His armour is actuallt red armour. The figie is now finished as is the base. All I need to do now is paint 4 little rats and pour some dirty water. I don't have a permanent photo booth so I'll try to take pics as soon as i can.

Hello Teronus,

The mini isn't that small to tell the truth. Malifaux figures, for instance, are a lot smaller.

Take care,

Awesome. I'd like to see how he came out when you get a chance to take some pics. I don't have a photo booth either - after painting a few minis I carry them off to my friend Bevan's (YetiSA here on CMON) place and he helps me with his decent camera. To be fair, my work station is a folding camp table in the lounge. Which needs to be packed up every now and again. My boyfriend and I are looking for a bigger place and we both agree that we need a hobby room!

What are you working on at the moment?

Hi Archarad,

My workspace is half of the dinning table. Luckly my wife don't mind so it's permanent. When I want to take pictures I can use the other half of the dinning table, but that's not permanent. I know putting up a picture stand isn't that big a thing to do, but I suffer from CFS and for me it's a HUGE task. I also have a figure that i use(d) exclusively to try new techniques on. I had seen the loaded brush technique and wet on wet blending on Painting Budah and I tried that on this figure. I also need to practise a lot to get a decent NMM. The figure is some kind of a hunchback by Fenryll, a French firm. Now i liked the results I got quite well that I decided to finnish the figure and place it on a simple base. Will take and post pics of this too soon.

Well, first of all I want to finnish this figurie here. Next to that I'm painting a ('mm head of a Bengal lancer for a friend of mine. Not the most pleasant thing to do as the sculpting/casting isn't that good. It's quite an old models in plastic. I'll post some pics of that too once finished. Next to that I'm cleaning up a couple of figures for future projects. First up is baron Ozhon from Rackham (I really LOVE those figures). This will be my first mounted figure ever! It's on a rat, but still it's mounted. Next to that I'm also cleaning up a GW figure : a chaos space marine aspiring champion. Don't really know what this actuallt is (I think a bad guy?), but I needed something in red armour after seeing an great way to paint red armour on Painting Budah and now I want to try that out too.

And I start to feel the itch to paint a 1/35th WWII figure too. So I might start an Alpine or Jaguar figure too, the two best companies for that era if you ask me. Not sure when I might start this though as I don't want to work on too many projects at once or I don't finish anything!

What are all the projects you're working on for the moment?

Take care,

Gino(2dope)

Wow - you really have a lot of things going on. :curl-lip: I'm trying not to have too many projects going at once because then I have the same problem of not finishing things!

So my projects at the moment are the ones I've payed on my WIP thread - the She Warrior bust and Wong (a Malifaux figure). I have quite a few other minis assembled and waiting to be primed and/or painted - mainly GW models because those are the ones readily available here in South Africa.

I'd like to see some pics of your progress (cellphone pics are great) if possible.

Yes, too many projects at once. That's probably why I have so many unfinished ones; Problem is that I have too much imagination; And when I see a figure I like I come up with a story, a scenen and I want to realize it;:curse!: And before I can finish it I have maybe ten to twenty idea's for other kits and I start one of them ans do time just slips away. To be honest, I'm quite yealous about your determenation. Wish i had some more of it.

should you ever want something from a brand you don't find in South-Africa, let me know and I'll see if i can get it and send it to you. Btw, you often can find great deals on "littl" brands at ebay.

I have only a very basic cell phone, for me it just needs to be able to make telephone calls, so I don't think it will take good pictures. I even have no clue how to transfer pictures from my cell phone to my computer.

take care,

Thanks for the offer Gino. :D I'm trying to be good(ish).

Hey I also make up stories for my minis - it helps me make decisions about paint schemes etc. Glad someone else does it! :)

Fun! That's what it should be all about in my humble opinion. Sometimes when I start getting frustrated with myself I have to remember that and it usually leads to better painting anyway. :)

I have been painting for competitions for years till it all became too serious and I've lost the fun of it. After a couple of years of no more painting, I decided to give it another go, this time with fantasy figures instead of historical one. But just for me and no more competitions. A lot of stress has disappeared and now I'm having a lot of fun again. I'm even thinking of doing an historical again. You are completely right, that having fun and be able to relax and forget one's worries is the most important thing about this wonderfull hobby.

Cheers,
