Hi everyone,

Well, I\'ve jumped in and there\'s no returning now...

I\'ve made my second post here on CMON--it\'s my fifth mini painted overall (unless you count the couple I slapped paint on back in the 80s--I don\'t heh heh):

http://www.coolminiornot.com/?id=34898

It was my first serious attempt at NMM, and some time-consuming experiments with blending. Little evil bugger took me like four days, but I\'m pretty happy with the results.

I would love some feedback, and maybe some hints as to make the metal look more realistic. Any other suggestions enthusiastically welcomed. I like this sculpt a lot--the photo, while clear, is a bit too bright I think--he looks a lot more, well, unholy in real life.

Anyway, thanks, and what I great community going on here! I\'m glad to have stumbled on to it.

Peace,
qf

One thing I think you really need to do is start thinning your paint more. This will help you to get the blends smoother without adding any texture. Otherwise it looks nice :)

i agree with katie: the overall effect is good but the highlight are a little too harsh because of a not enough thinned colour. it will allow you smoother transitions and a better overall result!

cheers =)

thanks for the feedback--from here and on the post itself, it looks like there\'s a theme: thin paints...

tough trying to find that balance between thick & chalkey and thin & running....

off to practice...

thanks,

Wish my fifth mini had looked that good...

Nice work and a hugely promising start for a fifth mini. Apart from the paint viscosity thing, my own, personal bugbear is mould lines. IMO this is half the reason for undercoating...to show any missed mould lines.

With some minis however, there is just no chance of eliminating them entirely. In these cases I simply wouldnt paint them.:D

This is not a major criticism, but once you get that \'filter\' thing in your head, you just can\'t get rid of it. Well, I can\'t:)

Ditto...Ditto....

I agree with all the comments here. Your painting skill at \'seeing\' highlights is great for a beginner - damn I\'ve been painting figures for years and NMM is a black art as far as I am concerned

Thinning your paints will make your figures stunning and I can\'t wait to see the results - but as Finn says - watch out for the mold lines. Thinner paint will only make them stand out more.

Well done :D

right, right, the bloody mold lines.....grrrrr. for my next batch i\'ve been using an emery board cut to shape--doesn\'t keep its effectiveness very long, but hey, they\'re cheap!

thanks for all the feedback everyone--and the compliments! should have a couple more up after halloween.
