I have finally got some better pic of my Total Testosterone entry!

http://www.coolminiornot.com/126518

Its the Howling Peak Champion by Ilyad Games. I thought the miniature fit the subject matter perfectly and virtually oozes testosterone. He was really great fun to paint and after receiving this mini in the post I ordered 4 more of the Ilyad barbarians to go with him!

Pleae let me know what you think, and critique is welcome as ever!

This sort of thing makes me want to just give up painting minis all together. I can’t ever see myself producing anything comparable. That left leg is probably the best metalics I’ve ever seen.

Funny thing though, you don’t have to be good at something to be a critic....
The hair is a bit of a let-down when compared to the rest of the mini. Given the detail of the face I half expect to see each individual hair painted, but the tip is just a big yellow blob.

Thats quite funny as each hair was indeed painted individually ;) I wonder if maybe the size of the photo and the fineness of other detail makes the \'yellow blob\' look so large... However, I am glad you like him ;)

Hi Pete!

Great photos. And a really nice rendition of the piece - as you know I\'ve just got this guy, and it is a beaut. I love the fur - colours are great and I think you\'ve got the balance right; just cos its so precisely sculpted it doesn\'t require each bit of fur painted individually.

what would improve this for me? I feel that the armour is a little bland; it\'s clean and metallic (best for this range, IMHO) but lacks interest for me......not sure what is needed though......

A great piece tho

I voted and commented on this in another thread but I\'ll say the same here.

i voted a 9 for this guy. Its a great paint job. The only 2 things that stop me giving it a 10 is they eyes could be better in line with the quality of the rest of your paint job and the hair looks rushed. Other than that a great paint job. You have done the rest of the face to perfection. The metals are very well done as well.

The tree is a woodland scenics frame for the clump foliage trees. I really twisted it up to make it 3d and sculpted on some more texture and some fungus ;)

Ogrebane, how can I improve the eyes? They are tiny... :)

Already commented, but... wow. Fantastic. I\'d agree about the hair (it\'s more the colour than the painting for me that lets it down) but the rest is freaking awesome. Nice job :D

Definitely the eyes let it down for me the flesh really is beautiful though.

one question the lighting over the whole model is that from the lighting used for the photos or have you exaggerated it with the paint.
Either way really nice job

the really black shadows are from the lighting, but I have used a bit of directional lighting and tried to make certain areas darker such as the inside of his legs etc, so maybe a bit of both

;)
