My usual Sunday rant... about christmas this time.

So here it is Sunday again. Im hung over and at work AGAIN and I noticed I hadnt posted a rank for a few weeks. so anyway I was thinking about christmas and when I was going to have time to do the pressy shopping and I just wondered how other people went about it.

I always leave it to the last minute to do the shopping and have to make do woth what i can get. Its just lucky that my kids are easy to please as they have never been disappointed for chritmas yet.

Every new years I vow to do the shopping early but here it is 4 Dec I wont be home till the 12 or 13th and wont be able to shop till about a week later so say the 22nd.

So how do you all go about your shopping then? ???

When I was single and had no kids I would always wait until after christmas for all the sales.lol

Now I am not allowed. I just leave it to the last minute still.

What should I get the wife? We have been married for about a month now. ???

Last minute here too i\'m afraid December 23rd to be exact as it\'s when i get paid my lovely bonus. We always have a good christmas and if i can\'t find what my wife/kid wants i get them something nice then we go out the week after and get the thing they wanted. As long as everyone has something good to open chritmas day it\'s ok!

For wives i have found mine always wants the weirdest stuff. This year she\'s getting a Scaletrix (the little car racing track thing) she\'s 25 but hey!

Drake give your wife the day off. And I mean do everything for her for a day.You will also work up alot of credit for later ;)

Well i\'m one of those people that absolutly hates shopping, nothing is worse for me than spending a whole day walking round shops looking at stuff that i either don\'t want or can\'t afford, so i leave till the last moment...

...and then i go to Amazon or some other online retailer.

Thank god for online retailers.

Don\'t do it!

I once packaged my girlfriends present in a huge box under a whole bunch of cleaning products - rubber gloves, polish, window cleaner, scrubbing pads. You get the idea.

It was not the best idea I have ever had. :D

Still, I might wrap the ironing board up this year!lol

I have actually done quite a bit of shopping already, I am determined to keep my spending down though. So people are getting either very appropriate thoughtful gifts, or if I can\'t think of anything they need/want, at least something interesting and/or edible :D

I just wish I could convince the friends who give me gifts... to be less extravagant. which to me means spending more than $20-25. I don\'t NEED any more stuff ???

Well no kids except for a nephew who wants Everything... but I either do it online or I start early. But Im also lucky I have a small family so I can get it over quick.

:rolleyes: I decided long ago to simplify my Yule/Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa shopping...for family cash....for friends gift cards.
Also I got tired of waiting for my family to get me the “right gift”......so I buy myself something special for the holidays. Ho Ho Ho!! :duh:

Normaly I start shopping in early December, so that I have no stress or overfilled shops. Since I have no kids and am only a student I have no big problems to find time for it.
But it also happend that I had to build something last minute on the 25th for the people I never find presents for(aka my dad and grandma).
This year I acctually got the gift for my boyfriend in March!! So no wories there:D

For the most part I just quit the whole deal. The whole thing of expectations of a gift on a certain date and the offense if those expectations arent met was offensive to me. I give when I want to give, regardless of the date. And, yes, I do still have alot of friends. I like the IDEA of Christmas - Family, friends, sharing, warmth, love etc.. It\'s the \'you must do such and so no this date or you are a Scrooge. Spare me.

Well, i normally wait for a really busy shopping day, then throw elbows ala Karl Malon style and steal boxes out of little old lady\'s hands like i\'m The Grinch.

KIDDING...

Hate shopping... never know what to get people so it kind of stinks walking around for hours looking for crap they\'ll not appreciate/never use... who needs a gold plated tired pressure gauge???

I don\'t hate the shopping part. Its the fighting with the people part I hate....

How hard is it to just use simple manners?

I do my real life shopping on \'off days\'...Tuesday afternoon, or late Sunday evening....but a majority of it is now done on line.

Last minute and not very much. The family is now spread over 3 continents (whats left of it as the older relatives die), I\'ve not been at my parents for christmas for years, and the different branches are becoming \"families\" in their own right as all the cousins start their own families, so the once large Christmas get togethers have disappeared. This means I only need to buy for a few people.

Even before that my Mother instigated a policy of just buying for the kids, and I\'m completely with her on this, christmas is far too comercialised, Jesus would be turning in his grave if he hadn\'t ascended to heaven. I still try to get something for my young teenage cousins though, flowers for my Mum, that sort of thing.

Also christmas over here is weird as, its currently like 37oC, seeing cards with snow on them is bizarre, sorry but it only feel like christmas if its cold and wet... lol
