nab that needs some help and tips.

lol. i live near the upper west coast of the US. i live in the lower west coast of canada. XD compared to the rest of canada, its considered quite abundant in rain. i dunt usually notice it. only problem is that the only time it stops raining is when i am in class or am busy doin other stuff and whenever i get home, it rains for the rest of the night. but it has been raining everyday. not continuously

but anyways, the automotive primer is working quite fine. it even has a child safety mechanism on the cap. LOL. when i was buying it, the guy at the counter was like \"NO!!!! DONT USE IT NOW!!!! IT\'LL RUIN UR CAR!!!!\" but newayz.... i found a dry spot under the back deck and primed there and ran back inside thru the basement with my little space marines nd dry blowed them. nd i did it over and over again jus to get them nicely done with thin coats. but the basement smelled like that aerosol for the rest of the evening. and the basement in my home is the main living quarter(houses in vancouver are a bit different from many other places)

later in the evening, i highlighted my sm legs. XD did an ok job but reached some dificulties in the end cuz my watered down paints started to dry up on the wet palette cuz the parchment paper started to curl and i was watching king arthur. X.x but pretty happy witht he results since it is my FIRST attempt at highlighting. XD i might post a pic jus to get some critism on what may be improved on.

edit: after a second look at my sm\'s legs, it dosnt look that great. X.x some of the highlights are waaaayyy toooo thick. X.x must fix em later. i must blame the stupid lighting i had. it was quite dim. X.x

for the highlights all you need to do is wait for the paint to dry and then get the basecoat colour and make the line thiner.

its also supposed to rain alot were I live but it dosent really. we\"ve never been flooded and it seems that all the other towns and citys have been.

lol. X.x is supose to be like two eyes. like u kno when in a cartoon someone is knkocked out, their eyes are Xs . and the unevenness comes from the other emoticon which are supose to be a pair of eyes.

newayz.... im not too clear on what you said bout highlights. wait..... do you mean after the highlighting is finished, get the base coat colour to thin the line?? jus realized highlights were a bit too watered down perhaps. and then when it started to dry up it got thicker and therefore was brighter.

yeah. I ment take some time and try and get the highlight how you want it, but if it goes somewhere you dont want it, then get your base colour and make a line under the highlight so the highlight is thinner. if there to waterd down just do the highlight, wait about two minutes so its dry, then, put a thicker line onto the thinner line.but dont cover it. hopefully it will be a blend, but thats quite a hard technique to get good at.

I\'ve recently found that when using an old box to prime models in, lots of fuzzies stick to the model causing a granular uneven coat. :cussing: :flame: :flame:

This causes no end of problems later. Something that does help (2nd batch of models) is that sweeping out your model box with a broom or something before priming models. This will significantly reduce the amount of fuzzies on your models. Black primer seems to be affected less than white primer.

RESURRECT!!!!!!

jus came up with a question. what color(s) would be most suggestible for undercoating a winged emblem(e.g. sm power armour) before putting gold on it. since the paints i own are limited, Im thinking scorched brown with a bit of snake bite.

nxt question, what type of material would be ideal for drop casting one sided images like the emblem on sm armor? i dunt like some of the emblems and am going to change them and add them onto some of the marines whose armor are the blank ones.

and another question about copyrighting casting and molding. if i was to make a mold copy of a GW or any copyrighted sprue/emblem and then change and convert the sprue, and then selling it. would that be legal? and when i mean converting/changing the sprue/emblem, it would be something like changing the winged skull(like on sm armor) into a winged sword.

hope that made sense. msot of the time, when i type things out, they come out really really awkward. and to make things even worse, im not very good at expressing or getting my ideas or questions out easily.

another question, when painting metallics on sword, guns, cannon barrels, gun magazines, and etc(i think you got the idea) would i water down my mythril silver?? im am quite bad at painting larger metallic surfaces.

what is the difference between foundation paints and just regular gw paints

Welcome to the world of mini painting. A word of advice....keep and eye on those minis as when you turn the lights off they must breed like rabbits due to the ever expanding collection one seems to have.

As for your Black primer..is it an old can and do you shake it enough as both of these can influence the fluidity? Might need to try a new can. I always primed my minis with a brush but now I swear by the can and never want to go back. You just cant get the finish with a brush when spending the same amount of time.

The best tip I have ever received was what you mentioned about watering your paints down. The difference in finish is phenomenal. Many people have already covered this but I do it a little differently.
Instead of mixing my paint with water on the palette, I use a small craft pump action spray bottle to wet the paint with a fine spray until I have a small moat of water around my paint. The reason I do this is because it gives me the option of using paint that has an increasing ratio of water depending on where I take it off the palette. Thicker in the middle....more dilute around the edges.
