National Styles

Maybe you haven`t seen the enourmous cavern here in the USA that we have to present our minis in. The closest light is about a hundred feet up in the air... Its like showing off your minis outside in a parking lot at night. So we have to paint them bright and loud... :D

Even worse is that they judge them that way also... They don`t carry them over to the light untill they are being photographed....

Ah, you guys beat me to the Lobinske thing - i was going to start my own country and say my national style was \"naturalistic\" and then just throw some paint on the miniatures at random. Oh well...

;)

When it comes to styles i like many.. but I always like when there is a kind of super-realism. (in lack of a better word) When the mini looks like it\'s walking out of another universe. One example would be cyril Abatis space marines.. Another Pete Shepards Divine Spirit. Another name that springs to mind would be Kiril Kanajew. (yellow one) They are of course painted very differently.. but.. hum.. the connection isn\'t obvius, huh? I can maybe sum it up that I like the \"bloody awesome\" style and keep it at that.. lol

I also like compromises between different styles. When someone tries a specific style but doesn\'t get it quite right, The result can actually be more interesting than the style atemted.

Maybe you could add some sugar to the vallejo paints, or would that ruin the consistency of the paint?

But many of the Vallejo paints that i have, have a very lumpy Consistency. Almost if some one had thrown sand in to it. Very grainy, and i cant do any thing about it. so i dont think that the sugar would do anything :D

Actually, it is thanks to other generous people on this site that I have become a more \'giving\' person. The members here at CMON have been nice enough to except me as one of their own, so it is only natural that their generous nature should become infectous. I\'m not just talking about the giving of figures, either. The helpful advice, the \'group\' things being done by FF and Dragonreach, The calenders and yearbooks and everything else everyone contributes, not to mention the work the mods and administrators do just to keep this place running and user-friendly. So I will share your \'Thank You\' with everyone here, because they made it all possible. - Mark

(after re-reading that, I hope no-one here is diabetic)

back to topic

before i start writeing, i must say that i seriously enjoyed revernd\'s comments ion that ranting rlobinski-guy. well funny

getting back to the styles: i must say that i always found the so-called \"english\"-style\" very (do not hate me for that! i don\'t mean it offensive in any way!) gw-ish. since, like the most of the well-known english painters used to work for gw they all picked up a lot of that white-dwarf-style. joe hill, tammy haye, mike mcvey... they all sort of invented that style. i\'d even count jakbo nielsen to it, as i know him since he\'s entering to the english gd\'s.

about the german style: since i am from germany and read all the coverages in the wd and been there twice (not showing off! well... ok i am, although it\'s not very special...), i always had the impression that the winnig minis were always painted quite muted. for example, look at franz sander or dominik heutelbeck (is he written like that? well at least he won some golden demons). goatman did quite a lot of pastell-coloured stuff too, and fredy\'s not german, he\'s austrian (made that mistake too, until he told me he wasn\'t, god i felt embarassed).
lately they\'re trying out nmm (sascha\'s one of the first to introduce it), but they are still quite focused on metallics.

all the germans on the forums: correct me if my impression is wrong

and if i can say so: the french rule (make me pregnant allan! i want a baby from you!), yellow one rules. please, post more stuff!
