Necron warrior - paint scheme test model

Especially when it comes to Crons. Boltgun metal should be banned.

Just look at GW's official paintjob, soooooo boring

If you're liking turquoise, then you might enjoy P3's Coal Black paint. It's a dark turquoise. Serves me as a highlight for black, but could serve you as a darker basecoat so the Hawk Turquoise paint could be turned to a highlight stage.

Thinking on it, Marjedi, I reckon that's half the reason i'm so indifferent to Necrons. They never really made them appeal, just slap some metallics on it, jobs done. And yes, i'd agree with WP. coal black is useful for a lot of things ;)

How are p3 paints btw? Seem that there are some very neat colours in the range. The Coal Black and Sanguine stands out.

Annoying though that i cant buy them locally.

Maybe ill give one of the new necronboxes a try. Could be a different scheme could help things out abit

P3 are pretty good, they were designed for wet blending moreover but they work any way you care to use them really. Some colouts i've found seperate a bit too easily, but they're good all the same.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I've actually used Coal Black to anti-zenithally shade the model, maybe I should've started by basecoated the whole piece with it? Here are the steps I've followed for the body:
- Falchion Turquoise (VGC) basecaot, sprayed
- Coal Black (P3) anti-zenithal shading, sprayed
- Green Blue (VMC) zenithal highlight, sprayed
- Light Green Blue (VMC) zenithal highight, sprayed
- Pin wash of Turquoise/Black oil paint in the recesses

The more I look at the mini, the less I like the yellow shoulder blades. There is too much of a contrast for me. I might do another test with another model, using the grey tone of the gun for the shoulder blades, and using bblack for the gun instead. What do you guys think?

I like the color scheme!

Instead of being made of metal, it makes me think they are some uber hard ceramic polymer.

I agree, it does look like a ceramic polymer. Highlighting the figure would be good, but adding a darker shade may destroy that "ceramic polymer" look it currently has. As for your shoulder pad color, a very light gray, with white edging might set off the contrast you are looking for.

Ceramic whatnow?! God damnit , Vikey, don't go all science on me now!
It's a good direction though, stick with it. Matching the shoulders to the gun colour would help bring it "together" a bit more I reckon =)

Then I've reached my objective, thanks!

That's what the next test model will be about: getting more contrast on the turquoise, grey pads and black gun. I think I'll keep the yellow for the necron symbol on the torso, in order to make it pop.

New test models: another warrior and an immortal. I've revised my color spraying order, starting with Coal Black all over, then doing successing zenithal highlights up to VMC Light Green Blue. I've also altered the color scheme, using Basalt Grey for the pads and black for the guns. While I normally don't like to use black, I sort of like the statement it makes on the models.

These are WiP shots, I need to wash the recesses and do some edge higlights on the body, complete the gun and the eyes as well as the base.
I'm not sure about the green energy elements on the gun, they don't look threatening enough. Do you believe I should use the lighter green of the highlight (GW Scorpion Green) as the main color, and then use an even lighter one for the highlights (if which case, what color would you recommend? I have access to GW, Vallejo and P3 brands)? I was also considering using a red color to contrast with the body.

To the mods: since this is sort of turning into a WiP thread, could you move it over to the correct forum? Many thanks!

Some thing that might work nicely on that blue would be some delicately sponged on battle damage maybe in a darkish brown or grey colour. Kept subtle it would break up the blue a bit and add extra interest without being overpowering.
