Need help, info on 3rd party tank tracks needed

Alright, I'm going nuts. it seems practically impossible to dig up detailed information on 3rd party tank tracks.

Basically I'm putting together this http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Space_Marines/Space-Marine-Tanks/SPARTAN_ASSAULT_TANK.html

But I want to give it less ridiculous tracks. I've been looking at aftermarket tracks from 3rd party suppliers but I am seemingly unable to find any information on the actual widths of tracks. All that's ever mentioned is the scale. And I need tracks that are 19-21mm wide, with the 'tooth' in the middle (y'know, the thing goes through the center of the running wheels.).

The most interesting are these; full metal links that are easily assembled (i.e. no fiddling with wire to attach the links). But judging from the video, the 1/35 Panzer links are the width of half a thumb, way smaller than the 20mm that I'm looking for. So perhaps the Leopard 2 tracks might be sufficient, as modern tank tracks tend to be a lot wider than WW2 ones.

So I'm looking at you, tank lovers, out there, that might be able to help me out. Which tank (tracks) in which scale should have the desired witdh of +-20mm? I know that trumpeter has T-55 tracks, and there are lots of 3rd party metal links out there which need wire assembly. So I am hoping to find either good plastic kist or if 1/35 Leopard 2 tanks are wide enough...

Help!

Indeed, I scoured Ebay as well and found lots of them. It's figurig out their width in mm which is a nightmare... I have noooo idea how a /16 or a 1/35 track translates into mm in width, per tank type, as every tank type had different tracks...

I'm actually a man!
I have friulmodel tracks at home fro a panzer mk4 and a King tiger both in 1/35th scale which is a bit biger than 28mm and I have a Jagdpanther in 1/48th scale which is new to me.

If you want I can measure the tracks width and distance from centre toothe to edge to give you sizes you can offer up against the FW tracks?

Give me a PM later on so I remember to check. :)

posted this on your other thread, but just incase you miss it,

Id have thought a good model shop would let you open the box to look at the kit before buying just have your ruler to hand so you can measure the width. though 20mm wide at 1/35 seems very wide, maybe a Maus kit? just guessing though.

Here look at this kit/video ive got the address where hes looking at the tracks.

Hope this helps.

Cool!

RMA; prepare to receive a PM for those measurements ;)

Count Zero; yeah I thought about going to model shops as well, but most shops here in Belgium wrap their boxes with plastic foil I'm afraid :-S
Scale-wise, actually it does not have to be 1/35, they just need to be the correct width. The FW model does give me the leeway of 18-21mm for track width. but sadly the youtube film doesn't play here, says it doesn't exist :-(

Ah well, Thinterweb confuses us all from time to time :D

It gives a good size indication indeed, they even seem to be a bit too wide. Oh, and the only other design point I need to consider is that the tracks of the FW model need a single dog-tooth running down the midle, although i do have +- 5mm of leeway in the middle gap.

Which brought me to the brilliant idea of looking up 1/35 Leopard 2 to see if those tracks are good in terms of widths, but then it hit me; what if the dude in the youtube vid has either freakishly large or freakishly small hands...?

Cheers! :)

In the mean time, I've got an alternative track of though as well (arf arf). I also asked a guy here at CMON who had posted a 1/35 T-55. He measured its tracks at 18mm, and suggested that an M1 Abrams' tracks a bit wider so should suit it perfectly.

So with the Abrams' tracks being wider than a T-55's, I started nosing around a bit and found out that an M1's tracks are 61cm wide. I looked a bit further and read somewhere that a T-90's tracks are the same as a T-72, which in turn are as wide as a Leopard 2. And some digging later I found that a Leopard 2's tracks are 64cm wide. So that offers me a whole range of possible tank tracks. :D

This means I've got some freedom in track type and thus model manufacturer, yay!

So I narrowed it down to either the Leopard 2 tracks from Easy Metal Links, which would be a breeze to assemble, but look rather bland (http://www.dersockelshop.de/detail/index/sArticle/39742/sCategory/520)
Or T-72 tracks: http://www.dersockelshop.de/detail/index/sArticle/40164/sCategory/520 or http://www.friulmodel.hu/en/atl-11-t-72-i14/
these look a lot more awesome, but would be a monk's work to assemble...
