need help on plaster/lightweight hydrocal

before i spend hours upon hours doing this piece let me ask a quick qeustion.

i am making a city wall that is supposed to look like a concrete wall covering over original brick work in areas. i intend on using lightweight hydrocal or plaster and was wondering if i could put it over foam core and have it stay on there.

secondly: if i add sand to it will it give it a gritty plaster feel or will it damage the chemical makeup of it.

help please.

y not do a milliput mixture or plaster over cork tile thats the best way i know on making walls

cork huh?

i will take that into consideration. what about using sand or grit mixed into the mix? will it destroy the hold?

@Uber: I\'ve put plaster over regular polystyrene foam (the blue/pink stuff used for houses) and never had any problems; not so sure about foam core, though.

What brand of plaster are you using, BTW?

its the stuff in the yellow and black container made for model railroads... the tutorial is a great find. thanks a bunch alex. just what i needed.

Adding some PVA might help if it doesn\'t bond well by itself.

That shouldn\'t be a problem.

also score the card lightly in a criss cross pattern that should help, I think the cork will give a better effect on the edges tho

eneded up using the cork and the foam core as a backing. worked out great. will post pics on my wip later this week.
