need help painting battle damaged red

what are some ways of painting battle damaged red? i am working on my orks and they are speed freeks and am not sure how to do the metal showing through. the chipping on it doesnt look right and i dont want to do salt chipping on an area so small.

Take a sponge that comes with a blister pack and rip it up. Dab it in paint then wipe off the excess and then press the sponge in the surface you want damaged. Practice on paper or somthing first.

Since you are painting red, for the damage color you could use a dark brown, darker red, metallic, black, etc.

yeh man, as above.

use your thumb to test how it will look (cheepr than paper!)

try a very dark brown.
only put metalics onto the larger chips created, representing deeper chips.

thanks guys....i added scorched brown and then added mithril silver on top of it and it looks great.

in my scratches, i take a darker red (red gore) as base color, and then paint brighter red (blood red) where i want the scratches to go. i then paint the scratches again with boltgun, leaving just a little red visible.

works great for me, it\'s a bit more visible.
