Hiya,

This week I will mostly be painting the Marco Columbo model.

I just have absolutley no idea how to go about painting his wine bottle at his hip!

The look I am after is the same way the superb David Rodriguez Has painted the \'official\' GW piece way. (link to his fantastic work below) And I would like to achieve the same effect (or very similar)

Any help?

Hummm Bottles

First i would do a black undercoat

Then paint on where you would like the wine to be say in a warlock purple,

Once dry paint over several very thin glazes of dark green,

this will dull down the purple and allow it to show through the green slightly,

I would then put on a varnish or something then add highlights to the bottle for finishing touches,

Does this help?

Cheers Iain.

I generally lay the colours of the contents down first remembering it is liquid and needs to lay horizontal to the ground at it\'s surface (make sense?) Then lighten tis up a litteand highlight as normal.
Next I use thin glazes of the glass colour in the case of a green bottle Darka angels green with a little black.
Paint these so they darken to the top and back of the bottle.
Next paint a few highlights of the green towards the front of the bottle and a little over the bottom liquid contents.
Keep all colours nice and thin and paint on as glazes to keep the transparent effect.
The final thing is to paint some light spots as you would with a gemstone.
Depending on where the light is coming from these tend to follow the shape of the bottle a little and pick up mainly where the neck joins the bottle as well as the bottom edge.

Hope this makes sense...
Of course as homework for reference I recommend you empty yourself a few green beer bottles.. peel off the labels and look at how the light acts upon it....

I\'d just add that using a gloss varnish on the bottle is quite effective [glass in general] esp if you generally finish off with a matt varnish.

Have a look at how \"real painters\" paint glass bottles full of liquid. Find some still-lifes and crib their highlighting techniques. And don\'t forget that red wine looks essentially BLACK in a green bottle.

Well i can see it perfectly, it looks great, has a really glossy glassy effect on it, and the liquid has a clear line across the bottle. looks good.
