If I remember rightly the base coat was a mixture of Black and Scorched Brown to which small amounts of Bleached Bone were gradually added.
But it has been a while since the painting article on that Shaggoth was in White Dwarf.

actually thats pretty well dead on....
start with what he said and do what he said only makes sure u can see the different layers as u can see in the pic only end it at the very very end with skull white....
the way they do it there tho is pretty well no step on it... theirs is just black with bleached bone chipping and white chipping after that
