Hey,

So, I consider myself to be a pretty good painter and would love tips and help from someone who painted these and came out with a very good result ( something around 7+/10 on CMON).

Basicly, I can't find a good color scheme for these. I tried using a codex grey base coat and washing with green (I forget the name). Then I would highlight with fortress grey and wash with devland mud - This gave a great effect but the problem is that there was no good highlight color to use afterwards , they all didn't seem to match the paint result.

I also tried using the new scheme GW suggested on their website with the new paints but again, Im not a huge fan of the results.

If anyone used a certain process that turned out really good, I would love to hear about your your base, layers, etc.

Thanks for all the help!

You might find that your request is a little too specific for these forums.

A quick search of the CMON gallery turns up these; that score a 7.9:

(though he needs to finish the bases!!!!!! >_< ;) )

Not sure of thats the kind of thing you're after?

Other than that, you might want to check out ghoul models in general to find out which schemes appeal to you, then post the examples for a break down.

Another quick search yields these:

Most of the ghouls in the gallery are GW ones, some of the best are included above. Get a picture of the ones you like and people will be able to lend more of a hand :)

If you paint a wash as devlan mud you get a nice shade, good for tabletop models. Then you can highlight with a darker tone of what you put underneath the devlan mud wash.

On a personal note, I just painted my gaming minis this way without the highlights.

I have painted 1 undead army and probably what you need is a scheme which is inline with the rest of the army, so you go for rotting flesh and bleached bone.

If not, you can try things like pictures on Google's Pictures tab and see what other artists think.

A real ghoul is a filthy thing so you probably not need greys but earth colors or mixes of the two.

I do not have a good camera now, but looking at WD and so on you'll see what I mean, my undead are rather fast painted and use black and white and green for the zombies, with which I do not alienate from the general color scheme.

I've tried a new painting scheme : elf flesh with yellow olive for the clothes + heavy violet for purple-earthy flesh tone.

Here's a (BAD) pic of some Kings of War (M. Revenge box) ghouls:
