Hi all,

I have a few questions as follows;

Do Tamiya inks work over GW paints?

Which colour is closest to Tamiya Titanium Silver? From other paint brands?

Where can I get a decent screw on/bayonet daylight bulb from the UK? All the ones I see are for much larger than desk/house hold lights. And I have tried hobbycraft.

I am after a small flat edged sculpting tool, think of the GW one but the circular bit is actually straight and not curved.

What chemical do you use to keep the paints wet longer when on a model for when you wet blend?

I would be greatful if you could list the products available in England please.

Many thanks

Hi all,

I have a few questions as follows;

Do Tamiya inks work over GW paints? Short answer, yes. Whether or not it's the effect you want is the question. I've noticed a good deal of shine on them, but then I've seen that with most inks I've worked with.

Which colour is closest to Tamiya Titanium Silver? From other paint brands? Well, for Citadel Paints I'd say use a mix of Astronomicon Grey and a small bit of white if necessary. The paint swatch you'll see online isn't close to the true color. Is there a reason you don't want to use the Tamiya Titanium Silver?

I am after a small flat edged sculpting tool, think of the GW one but the circular bit is actually straight and not curved. There's a wide variety of dental picks that would probably suit all of your sculpting purposes. I don't know of any sites offhand though as I just got mine from a dentist's office. (they were disposing of the old ones)

The ones I could answer to some reasonable extent. Did you post this on Dakka Dakka as well?

I have been advised that the Tamiya paints don't go well with citidel paints because they're alcohol based.

Yeah I posted it there too but only got one reply but he was american.

I don't have a dentist where I live sadly.

Thanks for yours though! :)

I haven't noticed any issues if you're inking over dried citadel paints.

After perusing the web quickly I've seen a few people declaring issues when using an airbrush, and also people declaring issues when the paints are mixed wet. I've no experience with these though. Sorry!

Ah ok thanks.

I know a lot of talented painters come on here so I'm sure one of them knows the rest of the answer :p

For wet blending acrylics you need a retarder that extends the drying time. I'm not sure what's available in the UK but I use the Liquitex brand. Note, this is different from a Flow Medium.

I wouldn't really recommend mixing Tamiya with Citadel. They just get a bit twitchy now and then. At the very least, if you must, pull out something that can be a test. I really have moved away from the miniature brand inks and picked up a box of Windsor & Newton inks, very nice, great color and they play nicely with other brands.

There are several sculpting tool kits...I just nabbed a 12 piece one. Again, the UK thing throws a curve in it but try Ebay, there are several modeling shops online that might ship across the pond.

Good luck!

yes they work well over all paints. they just don't mix well

bayonet and screw bulbs can be bought from any supermarket

how big do you want the flat edge to be? you can always file down the gw one or buy a cheap sculpting set like this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/12x-FIMO-CLAY...efc58ca11f0a0e20411a541ffc581e4#ht_2286wt_905

for wetblending, liquitex slo dry is supposed to be good, but you can make your own out of a water based lubricant like ky
